Job Description

Ready to help shape the future of energy flexibility in one of the UK's most exciting and fast-moving markets? Do you enjoy turning complex market developments into commercial opportunities that create real value for customers? At EDF, Success is Personal. As a Market Specialist - Flexibility, you'll help identify, develop and deliver the next generation of flexibility services while building your expertise in a business helping drive Britain's net zero future.

The Opportunity

As a Market Specialist - Flexibility, you'll play a key role in identifying and developing new flexibility services across Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), peakers and behind-the-meter technologies. Working within our Flex Delivery team, you'll assess emerging market opportunities, build expertise in evolving flexibility markets and help shape the services that support our customers and EDF's journey towards An Electric Britain. You'll work at the heart of commercial decision-making, translating market developments into practical solutions that create value and support business growth.

Alongside a salary range of between £55,000 to £80,000 per annum, with the potential for an annual bonus, this role offers flexibility to work remotely or in a hybrid arrangement. You'll primarily work from home, with attendance required at our #London office for quarterly meetings and other business activities when needed.

This is an opportunity to become a recognised subject matter expert in a rapidly evolving area of the energy industry. You'll work across Trading & Optimisation, Technology, Product, Commercial and operational teams, influencing how EDF responds to changing market conditions and emerging opportunities. From representing the business in industry forums to helping develop new services from concept through to operational readiness, you'll play a visible role in shaping the future of flexibility markets.

Who You Are

We're looking for a Market Specialist - Flexibility who combines commercial awareness with strong analytical thinking and a curiosity about how energy markets evolve. You'll be comfortable working across teams, challenging constructively, and turning complex information into practical business recommendations. Are you experienced in...

  • Strong knowledge of UK energy markets, including flexibility, trading, optimisation or related market services
  • Assessing the commercial value and viability of emerging market opportunities
  • Experience analysing large and complex datasets using tools such as Python, SQL and VBA (Visual Basic for Applications)
  • Interpreting complex market rules, consultations and technical requirements and translating them into practical business actions
  • Supporting the development or implementation of new market services, products or trading capabilities
  • Working effectively across commercial, trading, technology and operational teams to deliver business outcomes
  • Managing multiple priorities, dependencies and stakeholders within a changing market environment
  • Producing clear recommendations and insights from complex market information

Don't meet every requirement? We know that potential comes in many forms. If you're excited about the role and believe you have the skills and aptitude to grow into it, we encourage you to apply. We're open to considering candidates who can develop into the role with the right support.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Building expertise in new and emerging flexibility markets, services and industry developments
  • Assessing commercial opportunities and operational impacts across flexible energy assets
  • Translating complex market rules and requirements into clear commercial, technical and operational requirements
  • Supporting new flexibility services from initial assessment through to operational readiness and handover into delivery
  • Sharing market insight and recommendations that help shape business decisions and future services

Pay, Benefits and Culture

Alongside a salary range of between £55,000 to £80,000 per annum, potential for an annual bonus, and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include customisable benefits such as electric vehicle leasing, discounted gym membership, life assurance, tech vouchers, experience days, and more.
