The latest milestone in our journey has been the approval of the Group Data Strategy, Target Operating Model and Roadmap.We are at the very beginning of an exciting journey to set up our Group Data Function to implement our Data Strategy and turn our Data and Analytics capabilities into true growth enablers. One of the key parts of our Group Data Function is the Group Functions Data Hub with responsibility to deliver all data and analytics services to the Business Functions including Group Underwriting, Group Claims, Group Marketing and others.Dedicated to supporting the Group Underwriting Function, the Group Underwriting Data Product Owner is responsible for transforming the high-level vision of the data strategy into underwriting product backlog items, working collaboratively with the delivery teams to ensure any data build meets the business needs.  Focuses on ensuring data products, data processes and business specific visualisations are efficient, resilient and aligned with business goals.

  • Product Vision and Roadmap: Translates business stakeholder needs into a compelling data product roadmap that delivers measurable outcomes.  Owns the data product vision and roadmap, outlining key features and steps for development.
  • Backlog Management
    • Create, refine, and prioritise the product backlog to ensure alignment with business value objectives.
    • Define clear, actionable user stories and acceptance criteria to guide the development team.
    • Prioritising incidents and other business as usual activities against development team capacity and priorities.
  • Stakeholder Management: Engages with business stakeholders and data & analytics teams to understand requirements and priorities. Acts as the primary point of contact, facilitating clear communication between all parties.
  • Data Innovation: Responsible for ensuring data builds are driving transformational change by utilising new technologies, tooling and analytical techniques where appropriate.
  • Continuous Improvement and Iteration: Review and regularly updates and refines data products based on user feedback and changing business needs.
  • Data Governance and Compliance: Ensures data products and processes adhere to internal data governance policies and regulatory standards.
  • User Experience (UX) Design and Optimisation: Focuses on creating a user-friendly interface and continuously improving it.
  • Data Literacy and Training: Promotes data literacy within the organisation and provides training to stakeholders.
  • Promoting Ethical Data Practices: Ensures data products are developed and used ethically and responsibly.
     

This role requires a blend of data & analytics expertise and business acumen to bridge the gap between data & analytics teams and business stakeholders, ensuring that Group underwriting data processes are both technically sound and business focused.Candidate profileA Data Product Owner needs a blend of technical expertise and business acumen to manage data-driven products effectively. Experience from insurance and specifically underwriting is essential.Key skills include:

  • Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of data technologies, data science and data engineering:
    • Data Architecture and Infrastructure:   Data modelling, knowledge of Enterprise Data architecture concepts and understanding the value of good data architecture is critical.
    • Data Analytics and Business Intelligence (BI):  Ability to interpret data insights and translate them into actionable business strategies.
    • Data Governance and Quality:  Knowledge and application of data governance frameworks to ensure data accuracy, privacy, and compliance with regulations.  Experience with data quality management practices to maintain high standards of data integrity.
    • Machine Learning and AI:  Familiarity with machine learning algorithms and AI technologies to create predictive models and automate decision-making processes.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to align data initiatives with business goals and market trends.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on delivering business value.
  • Project Management: Strong project management skills to oversee complex data projects.
  • Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with data & insurance industry standards, trends, and best practices.
  • Coaching / Mentoring: A willingness and ability to help coach and develop others both within the data & analytics teams and wider business teams.
