The Compliance team provides independent compliance advisory support to Santander's Global Markets businesses, helping to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements while enabling commercial objectives. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with senior stakeholders across the UK, Europe and globally, advising on complex regulatory matters within a dynamic and fast-paced markets environment.

The difference you’ll make:

  • Providing real-time compliance advisory support to UK and EMEA Global Markets sales and trading businesses, with a particular focus on Fixed Income activities

  • Monitoring, analysing and interpreting relevant regulatory developments and advising on their impact to business activities and controls

  • Drafting, reviewing and enhancing compliance policies, procedures and governance frameworks to ensure continued alignment with regulatory expectations

  • Leading and supporting regulatory enquiries, internal investigations, thematic reviews, audits and inspections, coordinating responses with key stakeholders

  • Identifying, assessing and escalating regulatory and conduct risks, contributing to compliance risk assessments and ongoing monitoring activities

  • Developing strong relationships across Front Office, Legal, Risk and Control functions to promote a robust compliance culture and effective governance environment

  • Collaborating with global Compliance colleagues to ensure consistent interpretation and application of regulatory requirements across jurisdictions

  • Producing high-quality management information, governance reporting and committee materials for senior management

  • Supporting UK and EU regulatory filings, certifications and attestations, including engagement with SMCR requirements where applicable

The following requirements represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities essential for success in this role.

  • Previous VP-level experience within a UK/EU regulated financial institution in a Markets Compliance Advisory capacity

  • Extensive experience advising Fixed Income Sales and Trading activities

  • Demonstrable ability to make and defend complex compliance decisions in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to challenge and influence senior stakeholders across front office and infrastructure functions

  • In-depth knowledge of the UK/EU regulatory framework, including FCA Handbook and PRA requirements, MiFID II/MiFIR, MAR, EMIR/SFTR and relevant conduct and prudential standards

It would also be nice for you to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, in Law (LLB/JD) or MBA

  • Previous exposure to commodities, equities or cross-asset coverage

  • Eligible for a discretionary performance-related annual bonus.

  • We put 8% of salary into your pension, even if you don’t contribute yourself. We’ll pay in up to 12.5% of salary, if you contribute as well, and you can take some of our contribution in cash if you prefer.

  • 30 days’ holiday plus bank holidays, which increases to 31 days after 5yrs service, with the option to purchase up to 5 contractual days per year.
