  • Salary: National (Edinburgh and Leeds) ranging from £72,100 to £83,000 and London from £79,300 to £90,000 (salary offered will be based on skills and experience)

Supervision, Policy and Competition oversees firms and individuals (supervision), creates and reviews the rules by which they operate (policy) and identifies and remedies ineffective competition in markets (competition).

Sitting in the Payments and Digital Assets directorate, the Market Interventions - Payments department supervises and sets regulatory standards in payments and e-money firms.

We’re looking for an experienced leader to manage one of our teams of payments specialists We are particularly interested in applications from people with a background in regulation / compliance relating to financial crime.

Role Responsibilities 

  • Representing the FCA’s expectations with credibility and authority, encouraging firms to make positive changes

  • Reviewing and determining appropriate regulatory action across a portfolio of cases, ensuring proposed actions are well reasoned and communicate a clear strategic message

  • Forging and maintaining strong partnerships with key stakeholders including other regulatory agencies, to deliver coordinated and forward-looking approaches to regulation of payments firms

  • Working as part of the department’s leadership team to ensure that we work effectively and there is a positive and inclusive culture

  • Delivering through others - coaching, empowering and managing performance of team members

  • Role modelling effective leadership behaviours and organisational values

Skills Required   

Minimum: 

  • Demonstrated experience of people management including leading, coaching, motivating and developing others

  • Prior experience of financial crime enforcement, supervision or compliance within a regulatory body, law enforcement or financial services firm

Essential:  

  • Sound judgement and ability to make well-reasoned decisions, including where information is limited

  • Proficient at communicating clearly in both speech and writing

  • A high level of composure – you should be able to manage competing priorities, challenging situations and work across organisational boundaries

  • Effective interpersonal and stakeholder management skills: able to build and maintain relationships with senior management at regulated firms, other regulators and staff at all levels within the FCA

  • A clear appreciation of the value of teamwork

  • Hybrid model where employees work a minimum of 40% in the office each month (expectation of 50% for senior leaders). Changing from September to a minimum of 50% in the office each month (expectation of 60% for Directors and Executive Directors)
