Job Description SummaryThe Senior Project Engineer (Sr. PE) serves as the central technical authority and single point of contact for transformer projects within the GE Vernova (GEV)’s HVDC Solution Line. This role is responsible for the end-to-end oversight of engineering activities—including electrical, mechanical, and controls disciplines—ensuring projects meet Quality, Cost, and On-Time Delivery KPIs. The PE balances technical leadership with project management, overseeing the design lifecycle from initial specification review through to site commissioning.

Job DescriptionBe the Technical Heart of HVDC Transformer Projects From Specification to Site

In HVDC transformer projects, one person needs to hold the full picture — technically, commercially, and across every discipline involved. As a Senior Project Engineer within GE Vernova's HVDC Solution Line in Stafford, that person is you.

You'll serve as the primary point of contact for transformer projects, coordinating engineering activities across electrical, mechanical, and controls disciplines from initial specification review through to site commissioning. You'll work at the intersection of technical leadership and project delivery — building trusted relationships with customers and internal teams alike, keeping quality high, costs controlled, and milestones on track.

This is a role for someone who combines deep transformer engineering knowledge with the organisational skills and interpersonal confidence to lead complex, multi-discipline projects in a demanding, high-value environment.

What You'll Do
  • Lead project engineering and coordination — act as the primary technical interface for internal and external customers; provide technical guidance to cross-functional engineering teams; plan and manage design activities; and lead internal and external design reviews across the project lifecycle, including management of the transformer engineering design budget.
  • Manage customer relationships and technical approvals — engage directly with customers to ensure engineering documents are approved on time; handle technical queries promptly and accurately; and present complex technical issues clearly to stakeholders including preparation and oversight of technical reports.
  • Drive delivery performance — ensure on-time delivery of technical documentation and drawings; manage design change processes; and track project performance against key metrics including Right First Time (RFT), Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) reduction, On-Time Delivery (OTD), and budget adherence across tendered, designed, and built cost stages.
  • Ensure compliance and manage risk — lead customer specification reviews to ensure full compliance; identify technical risks proactively; and implement mitigation strategies that protect project quality, schedule, and commercial outcomes.
  • Support the full project lifecycle — coordinate supplier query management, production activities, Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), and site commissioning support to ensure seamless end-to-end project delivery.
Who We're Looking For

You're an experienced transformer engineer or technically grounded project manager who is ready to take full ownership of complex, high-value HVDC projects — and who thrives when leading people, solving problems, and delivering results across organisational boundaries.

Required

  • A formal education in Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline provides a strong foundation for this role; however, we are most interested in your total experience and professional achievements.
  • Proven expertise in transformer engineering, with a solid technical foundation in electrical, mechanical, and controls disciplines relevant to High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transformer systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage project budgets, lead cross-functional teams, and provide clear technical direction in a complex engineering environment.
  • Track record of managing customer relationships and technical documentation approval processes in a project engineering context.
  • Ability to identify and mitigate technical risks, manage design changes, and maintain performance against quality, cost, and schedule targets.

Preferred

  • Experience in a formal project engineering or technical project management role within a power engineering or high-voltage equipment environment.
  • Familiarity with HVDC systems, transformer lifecycle management, or large-scale capital equipment supply chains.
  • Confidence presenting technical information to senior internal and external stakeholders, including customers and suppliers.
