This Senior Software Development Manager role is part of the Distribution and Supply team which sits within our Technology division. Distribution and Supply owns pricing, inventory, content, and marketplace trust, sourcing high-quality inventory and content, determining availability, pricing products, and helping travelers and partners enjoy a safe, profitable marketplace experience. In this role, you will lead teams that build and operate the marketplace infrastructure enabling travelers to discover, compare, and book travel while helping drive technical direction, develop talent, and deliver results across complex systems


In this role, you will:


  • Lead the design, development, and evolution of scalable, secure, and reliable software services, including system design, API design, and data modeling.
  • Provide technical direction for high-quality, maintainable, testable, observable, and operationally sound solutions across multiple services and domains.
  • Partner with product, design, and engineering teams to translate customer and business requirements into reusable technical solutions and effective service integrations.
  • Guide the end-to-end lifecycle of services and features, including development, automated testing, deployment, monitoring, incident resolution, and continuous improvement.
  • Use data, metrics, experimentation, and analytics to prioritize work, validate hypotheses, and improve system performance, reliability, and user experience.
  • Safely integrate and operate AI/ML-enabled solutions that improve outcomes, including familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent Level; Technical Degree Preferred.
  • 8+ years of relevant professional experience and 3+ years of people management experience.
  • Demonstrated ownership and technical leadership across services, multi-service architectures, or a product domain, including responsibility for design, implementation, quality, deployment, and operational health.
  • Strong proficiency in data structures, algorithms, system design, API design, and data modeling, with hands-on experience applying these fundamentals in real systems.
  • Hands-on experience with modern web technologies, frameworks, service architectures, and AI-driven tools or workflows that enhance developer productivity or product capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience leading the design and evolution of multi-service or multi-component architectures, including well-structured APIs, data models, and integration patterns across systems.
  • Demonstrated success driving technical improvements at scale, including performance tuning, resilience hardening, reliability engineering, or optimization of high-traffic services and user interfaces.
  • Strong operational excellence practices, including instrumentation, observability, alerting, on-call participation, and incident response that improve long-term service health.
  • Proven ability to use experimentation, feature flags, A/B testing, analytics, and service metrics to guide technical and product decisions and measure delivered impact.
  • Experience integrating or extending AI/ML-enabled capabilities across services or applications, including responsible adoption of AI-driven components and guiding teams in the effective, safe use of AI tooling for code quality, testing, and operations.

The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $184,500.00 to $258,000.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $295,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
