Ready to make an impact from day one?
Why this role is important
We're seeking a Senior Manager for Competitive Intelligence to come aboard the Personio rocket ship as we become the category leader in HR software for SMEs. Your role will be critical to making sure Personio stands out from the competition in this rapidly evolving market.
You'll be responsible for developing actionable competitive insights that drive our business strategy and sales success. You will monitor the competitive landscape in a scalable way, assemble compelling sales tools and profiles of top competitors that really do help us win, as well as enable sales teams with your competitive insight.
Who we are looking for
We need someone who is adaptable, driven, curious, and analytical. You'll be able to dig deep to uncover competitive insights and take action to increase our competitive win rate. We're looking for someone who is independent, collaborative, and will be inspired and motivated by Personio's mission of enabling better organisations.
Role responsibilities

  • Develop Deep Understanding of Competitive Landscape by Market - Across DACH, UK/I, Spain, and the Netherlands, go deep on our top competitors, including their products, features, pricing & packaging, sales & marketing, and overall market position.
  • Assemble Compelling Sales Tools:
    • Create and update sales tools to highlight how we can win against the competition, noting our strengths, weaknesses, objection handling, trap-setting questions, and more
    • Compile 'switcher stories' summarising reasons companies have switched from competitors to Personio
    • Craft externally-facing assets (e.g. webpages)
    • Support product marketers to inform assets like pitch decks, ensuring our competitive differentiation is highlighted
  • Build Sales Proficiency: Enable our sales team and serve as the internal compete champion that sets the bar for how to handle Compete. Work with Sales Enablement to train the sales team on top competitors and how to communicate Personio's differentiators.
  • Feedback to Product Roadmap: deliver Competitor Insight that influences the roadmap.
    • Conduct internal and external competitive research projects, including conducting internal sales interviews & surveys, analysing publicly available information, and driving/supporting external research projects with third-party consultants
    • Conduct competitive comparisons to inform major product launches, including analysing competitors' features, pricing & packaging, and messaging
  • Win/Loss: Support win/loss analysis to understand win rate trends and the top reasons we win/lose against the competition
  • React, Respond and Report - Provide rapid analysis and internal communications to competitive announcements, followed by more detailed assessments when appropriate. Support quarterly reporting to senior leadership highlighting top competitive updates, market trends, and win rates.

Knowledge, skills and experience requirements

  • Experience:
    • You have 6+ years of experience in a Competitive Intelligence role - ideally with previous experience in SaaS companies with solutions in the B2B world.
    • Previous strategic, analytical, product, and/or sales roles.
    • Experience conducting market research, competitive analysis, and (preferred) sales training
    • Ideally experience with Comp Intel platforms such as Crayon or Klue.
  • Curious: The HR space in SMB is undergoing a massive automation phase; you should be genuinely curious about the challenges HR leaders are facing and how tools like Personio's Intelligent HR Platform address these
  • Hands On: Must be able to be hands-on with the product and understand how Personio compares at a hands-on level. You will have an ability to deeply understand technical aspects of Personio and competitors' products and can uncover in-depth insights that others may overlook.
  • Craft: Assemble clear & simple sales tools that "get to the point". You will have a writing style that persuades - suitable for either internal or external audiences. The bar for your writing is high: you'll write in crisp, insightful ways.
  • Advocacy: Be a spokesperson for Compete internally, comfortable presenting to sales teams and communicating with clarity and precision. You are able to adapt how you communicate to best reach and engage your audience-from solutions engineer to CEO, and have experience engaging with sales and senior executives, effectively and efficiently.
  • Handling Complexity: You can prioritise tasks and responsibilities across projects in a fast-paced environment. You like to think through complex issues and come up with effective solutions. You're analytical in nature, and can draw logical conclusions from different pieces of information.
