The Payments CIO function is delivering one of the most significant payment transformation programmes in Nationwide's history, replacing legacy payment processing capabilities with strategic SAP Fioneer solutions that will sit at the heart of the Society's future payments architecture.

This role provides a rare opportunity to lead delivery across Nationwide's strategic Payment Centralisation platform, supporting the future processing of BACS, Card Clearing & Settlement, CHAPS and more across the Group. We are seeking a highly experienced Project Manager with specialist knowledge of SAP Fioneer Payment Centralisation, associated SAP technologies and payments processes.

Success in this role requires a unique combination of project delivery leadership, deep payments expertise and practical experience working with SAP Fioneer products and methodologies, specifically Payments Centralisation. You will bring knowledge and experience through traditional project management backgrounds, helping Nationwide maximise the value of a strategic long-term investment that will remain central to the organisation's payment capabilities for many years to come.

Working with senior stakeholders, architects, engineers, business leaders and strategic partners, you will lead complex delivery activities, influence key decisions and help shape the future direction of payments processing across the Society.

At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.

For this job you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part time you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at either our Swindon or London office. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works. You can also find out more about our approach to hybrid working here

If we receive a high volume of relevant applications, we may close the advert earlier than the advertised date, so please apply as soon as you can.

Responsibilities

What you’ll be doing

On a typical day, you'll work with programme leaders, architects, engineers, operations teams, SAP Fioneer specialists and external partners to deliver complex Payment Centralisation initiatives. You'll lead planning, governance, risk management and implementation activities while applying your specialist knowledge of SAP Fioneer Payment Centralisation and payments processing to resolve delivery challenges and inform strategic decisions.

You'll provide leadership across multiple workstreams, ensuring solutions are aligned to business objectives, regulatory requirements and long-term architectural direction. You'll identify and manage dependencies across payment schemes, technology platforms, operational processes and third-party suppliers whilst helping shape delivery approaches that support Nationwide's strategic payments roadmap.

You'll also act as a trusted advisor, bringing specialist knowledge and practical experience that helps accelerate decision making, reduce delivery risk and build organisational capability in SAP Fioneer Payment Centralisation and associated payment technologies.

  • Knowledge of wider SAP and SAP Fioneer solutions and technologies, such as Transactional Banking (TRBK) and Data Services (SDS) as examples.
  • Experience supporting payment scheme modernisation, strategic payment platform implementations or direct scheme membership initiatives, with knowledge of the regulatory and operational considerations involved.
  • The ability to transfer specialist knowledge, coach colleagues and help develop internal capability within delivery teams operating in highly specialised payment and SAP Fioneer environments.
