Are you driven to solve the right problems? Do you thrive on coaxing out ideas from insights and transforming them into compelling experiences? If so, let’s talk.

Cardinal Health is looking for a versatile product designer, mentor, and leader who’s excited to craft digital products and services that help real people while supporting your colleagues as a coveted member of the Product Experience team.

As a Product Experience Design Lead, you will define, lead, and implement the analytics experience across the Specialty Pharmaceutical Distribution digital product portfolio. You will work on analytical tools and dashboards that combine clinical, financial, and operational data to equip providers more efficient control of their practices’ financial performance. These products help monitor drug utilization, claims payment and denials, reimbursement trends, margins, and provide insights to identify revenue cycle management opportunities.

In this role, you will partner closely with product, business, and analytics stakeholders to translate complex business questions into intuitive analytical experiences that empower informed decision-making. You will transform clinical, financial, and operational data into meaningful decision-support tools, dashboards, and workflows that help customers understand performance, identify opportunities, and take action with confidence.

About the business you will support:
Specialty is a rapidly growing industry that supports the development, distribution, payment, and administration of specialty pharmaceuticals. Key therapeutic areas are Oncology and Rheumatology. Specialty pharmaceuticals are defined as having the following characteristics:

  • Dispensed to treat individuals with rare or chronic diseases.
  • Usually much more expensive than traditional drugs ($600+ per month)
  • Complex treatment regimens, requiring ongoing monitoring and patient education.
  • May require specialized shipping and have limited product availability and distribution.

The healthcare space is exploding with the convergence of new service models, technologies, health sector shifts, and a growing demand for open access to health information. Expectations are higher than ever for simple, useful, and delightful experiences as more people find their real and digital worlds interwoven with the people and spaces that serve their needs. It’s a landscape ripe for thoughtful design and deep collaboration across many disciplines to create the next generation of products and services.

Responsibilities:

  • Engage as a player/coach, equally providing strategic leadership and delivering tactical research/design.
  • Guide product teams to deeply understand customer/user behavior, pain points, and needs.
  • Articulate experience challenges and opportunities for your product and in healthcare more broadly.
  • Relentlessly consider the whole system and each detail from the user’s perspective.
  • Prioritize what adds the most value for our users/customers and our business.
  • Clearly identify and test your hypotheses and assumptions.
  • Determine both quantitative and qualitative insights, synthesize complex data sets and business requirements, and translate them into actionable design solutions.
  • Create detailed user flows and sophisticated low/high-fidelity prototypes for understanding and validation.
  • Explain your (and your team’s) design rationale to non-designers and build a shared understanding to effectively deliver exceptional cohesive experiences.
  • Advocate for a human-centered approach for your product/platform to deliver more desirable solutions as a catalyst for increasing our competitive advantage.
  • Provide thought leadership and creative direction to designers and researchers.
  • Build and nurture relationships with cross-functional leaders, their teams, and business stakeholders.
  • Translate complex business problems and analytical requirements into user-centered experiences that enable data-driven decision-making.
  • Partner with product managers, business leaders, and subject matter experts to transform clinical, financial, and operational data into intuitive decision-support experiences.
  • Demonstrate qualities of transparency, trust, vulnerability, psychological safety, and collaboration.

Qualifications:

  • 7-10 years’ experience designing digital products and/or services utilizing a human-centered approach, preferred.
  • A clear grasp of experience design best practices for digital and real-world touchpoints.
  • IA, journey mapping, blueprinting, and interaction design chops and proficiency with relevant tools.
  • Repeated experience planning/facilitating/analyzing research, service prototyping, and usability testing.
  • Exceptional visual, verbal, and written communication skills in service of impactful storytelling.
  • Comfort leading and designing within a modern product/service design lifecycle.
  • Ability to guide team members and stakeholders through a design thinking mindset.
  • Strong analytical aptitude with the ability to understand business processes, data relationships, and customer workflows, then translate those insights into meaningful user experiences and product solutions.
  • 3+ years designing in healthcare for relevant segments — e.g. consumer, pharmacy, health plans, etc.
  • BS/MS degree in human factors, design, psychology, sociology, or relevant experience, preferred.
  • Well-versed in the strategy, operations, and technology powering the healthcare business.
  • Experience designing modern data visualizations to tell the right story to the right audience.
  • Experience designing analytics products, decision-support systems, dashboards, and data visualization experiences that help users make complex business decisions.
  • Experience working with clinical, financial, operational, or healthcare data domains.
