The PR & Communications Manager will develop and implement a PR strategy, manage media relations, create promotional content, prepare spokespeople for media opportunities, and respond to crisis situations while ensuring a positive brand image. They will also analyze press coverage and collaborate with other teams to enhance communication efforts.
We are looking for a dynamic and creative PR & Communications Manager to join our press office.
You’ll need to hit the ground running, delivering standout press coverage and publicity during this very exciting period of high growth we’re currently enjoying.

You’ll form a key part of our ambitious, high-performing and supportive communications team.
What You Will Do
- Contribute to and implement an impactful PR strategy for Plum.
- Build strong and fruitful relationships with journalists across national, business and consumer press in the UK.
- Act as the first point-of-contact for all media requests, speaking articulately on behalf of the company in line with the company’s values
- Work with our brand and product teams to create and distribute a pipeline of creative stories and pitches as well as digital PR campaigns to improve our search rankings.
- Monitor and report on our press coverage and industry activity regularly managing data analysis as required.
- Get to know our customers and expand our growing collection of case studies.
- Train and prepare our spokespeople for high-profile media opportunities, and advise senior management on the reputational impact of business decisions.
- Write from concept to completion high-quality communications materials, including press releases and comments that journalists find genuinely interesting.
- Prepare and distribute other original promotional content such as articles, news and press releases, email, blog and social media posts, and other updates.
- Draft and approve communications to be sent out to employees.
- Ensure that all materials present a clear, unified, and positive image for the organization and/or brand.
- Prepare for and respond to any crisis situations with integrity and authority, and advise customer services more generally on issues that may pose a reputational risk.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Who You Are
- You have 3+ years PR experience in a high-growth environment, either in-agency with relevant clients, or in-house at a start-up/similar company.
- You have a clear interest in and knowledge of fintech/personal finance.
- You have awareness of the PR significance of social media and are able to act upon this in an impactful way, working with our Social Media Manager
- You’re proactive, self-motivated and well-organised
- You have strong interpersonal skills, working effectiveness across teams. These skills are essential for developing relationships with media representatives, handling challenging situations and advising people within your organisation.
- You’re a strategic thinker who looks beyond the obvious and who can look at the bigger picture.
- You’re an excellent communicator with a good eye for detail.
- You not only have strong speaking, writing and presentation skills, but also are able to crunch data and synthesise them into compelling stories.
- You’re a newshound who has a deep understanding of the press, and an ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with journalists.
- You possess a solid ‘black book’ of relevant media in the UK.
- You’re a storyteller who thinks of creative ways to promote the message.
