We’re looking for a Head of Machine Learning & AI to define and lead how machine learning drives customer experience and commercial outcomes across Moonpig’s Cards business.

This role sits within our Product, Data & Technology (PDT) team and focuses on building and scaling applied production machine learning systems. From recommendations and ranking to search and personalisation, your work will directly shape how millions of customers experience Moonpig.

You’ll lead a team of machine learning specialists, owning the performance, quality and lifecycle of models in production. Alongside this, you’ll guide how we apply modern AI technologies, including generative AI and LLMs, in practical, high-impact ways across our products.

As part of the wider PDT leadership team, you’ll influence roadmap decisions, shape investment priorities, and act as the senior voice for ML and AI across the Cards business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define the vision and direction for machine learning and AI across the Cards business, identifying opportunities to improve customer experience and commercial performance
  • Lead the performance and evolution of core ML systems including recommendations, ranking, search and personalisation
  • Own model quality and lifecycle management, including evaluation, monitoring, retraining and long-term maintainability
  • Drive the development of AI-powered product features, including LLM-based and generative experiences
  • Partner with Product Management to shape the ML roadmap and prioritise high-impact initiatives
  • Set technical direction across modelling approaches, feature design and evaluation frameworks
  • Work closely with Engineering and MLOps teams to ensure ML systems are production-ready, scalable and well-supported
  • Act as the central ML authority within PDT, aligning teams around best practices and shared approaches
  • Lead, coach and grow a team of machine learning specialists, including managers and senior individual contributors
  • Influence senior stakeholders, guiding decisions and representing ML and AI in leadership forums

About you:

  • Proven experience leading machine learning or applied science teams with accountability for business impact, ideally across B2C ecommerce environments.
  • Strong expertise in building and evaluating production ML systems such as recommendations, ranking, search or personalisation
  • Commercial mindset with experience owning ML systems that drive measurable outcomes like conversion, engagement or revenue
  • Ability to set technical direction and guide decisions across a broad and complex ML landscape
  • Experience with, or strong interest in, modern AI approaches such as LLMs and generative AI
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts into business value
  • Experience working cross-functionally with Product, Engineering and platform teams such as MLOps
  • Track record of influencing senior stakeholders and driving alignment across teams

What's in it for you?
