Head of Fraud & Recoveries – Group Claims

Reporting to the Group Claims Director

Location: London with Hybrid working (min 2 days in the office)

The role:

We are looking for a global leader to join the Group Claims Function and lead the claims fraud and recovery operations across the Group. This is a new and exciting opportunity to join Hiscox and make a real difference in a key area of our claims process.

Your role will be responsible for developing and implementing a robust strategy to combat fraud through both the identification and investigation of high risk claims but also working on plans to deter fraudsters from even targeting us in the first place.

Data and insights will be at the heart of this so you should be good at analysing information and identifying new sources of insight that help us profile claims. In addition to this you will help ensure our front-end claims processes and claims investigation toolkits are effective in deterring fraudsters.

You will also be responsible for our claims recovery operation, managing relationships with our cost containment vendors and oversees all recovery efforts including pursuing and monitoring overpayments.

You will be interacting with both Senior and Executive level stakeholders across the organisation, Influencing others and critical thinking will be key to overcoming challenges where there is misalignment with the federated business model.

The ability to think creatively but be able to effectively implement solutions and deliver through others to get results will be key skills you possess.

Main duties

Fraud

  • Work with the Global Claims Leadership Team other key stakeholders to implement an effective fraud strategy that minimises the risk of leakage.
  • Drive alignment across our big ticket and retail business units through process improvements and technology outcomes.
  • Implement the necessary governance and controls.
  • Identify internal/external data sources that provide effective insights in helping to identify high risk/fraudulent claims for investigation and integrate this into our overall data insight and profiling of claims.
  • Continually refine and enhance the toolkit available to fraud investigators/claims handlers to help reduce the risk of fraudulent claims.
  • Have a strong market network to understand new and emerging risks of fraud and the tools available to combat it within the travel market and ensure that our processes and controls can react to these risks quickly.
  • Deliver market leading results in the identification and elimination of fraud within the claims process. Innovate from the centre through the use of AI and identify use cases where machine learning and advanced analytics can offer competitive advantage.

Recoveries

  • Manage the global claims recovery process to ensure we maximise savings where another party is responsible for the loss.
  • Develop and implement a strategy that provides alignment across all business units through process improvements and technology efficiencies.
  • Establish, implement, and monitor operational objectives with applicable policies and procedures for the recovery unit.
  • Identify and mobilise scalable opportunities where centres of excellence or 3rd parties can drive consistency and support the business through its growth ambitions.
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate internal and external performance and take steps to improve the efficiency and quality of operations.

Experience and qualifications

  • Experience within an operational management role focused on fraud and cost containment activity across commercial lines.
  • Experience within Insurance and claims is a must have
  • Strong interpersonal skills and stakeholder management experience
  • Ability to drive performance through others
  • Strong data and analytical skills
  • A strategic thinker capable of identifying new concepts and solutions and driving them through to implementation
  • Effective and building plans and executing against them to achieve desired results
  • Great organisational skills and use of initiative
  • The ability to work to tight deadlines and therefore be able to prioritise a workload effectively
  • A degree and/or professional fraud qualification is, desirable but not essential
