The Director, Landlord & Tenant Advisory leads a team of consultants delivering specialized property tax advisory services for landlord and tenant clients. This role oversees complex engagements involving property tax compliance, valuation and assessment analysis, lease-related property tax advisory, negotiations and appeals, tax bill administration, and reporting. The Director builds trusted client relationships, drives property tax savings across complex commercial real estate portfolios, and leads practice growth through business development, thought leadership, and team leadership.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain strong client relationships while delivering high-quality, profitable advisory services.
- Lead complex client engagements throughout the annual property tax cycle.
- Advise landlords and tenants on lease-related property tax matters, assessment strategies, and valuation issues.
- Develop property tax strategies that support clients' leasing, occupancy, and real estate portfolio objectives.
- Manage property tax compliance, assessment reviews, negotiations, appeals, litigation support, and reporting.
- Review assessor valuations, assessment notices, and property records to identify tax-saving opportunities.
- Prepare and oversee valuation analyses and strategic recommendations for client properties.
- Serve as the primary client contact, providing regular updates, presentations, and strategic guidance.
- Develop engagement workplans, coordinate data collection, and ensure timely project delivery.
- Ensure compliance with Firm policies, professional standards, and practice guidelines.
- Lead practice operations, including resource planning, financial forecasting, billing, collections, and contract renewals.
- Recruit, coach, develop, and manage team performance while fostering a collaborative, high-performing environment.
- Monitor legislative and market developments and communicate emerging issues and opportunities.
- Contribute to Firm initiatives and collaborate across service lines to deliver integrated client solutions.
- Build the Firm's market presence through industry participation, thought leadership, and business development activities that expand the Landlord & Tenant Advisory practice.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree (or equivalent) in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Engineering, Economics, Real Estate, Business Management, Public Administration, Entrepreneurship, International Business, or a related field.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of multistate property tax experience, including commercial real estate and landlord and tenant advisory services.
- Experience leading client engagements, developing teams, and managing complex commercial real estate portfolios.
Computer Skills:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access), internet research tools, and relevant property tax and business technology platforms.
Certificates and Licenses:
- Valid driver’s license
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Directly supervises employees within the practice, including assigning work, coaching and developing team members, conducting performance evaluations, and supporting career development in accordance with Firm policies and applicable laws.
