HOURS: Full-time – 35 hours

What you’ll be doing…

Join our engineering team within the Security Data and AI Lab, part of the Chief Security Office (CSO).
We recognise the transformative impact of data, AI and cloud infrastructure on how security platforms are built and operated. These capabilities form a critical foundation in shaping the Bank of the Future, enabling smarter, more responsive, and more resilient products for our customers and colleagues.
The pace and scale of change across data, cloud and AI makes this an exciting time to join the Lab. With a modern engineering toolset and strong platform foundations, capabilities are growing to include intelligent automation. This comes alongside traditional DevOps and cloud engineering practices.
This role is suited to an experienced DevOps / Cloud Engineer who combines strong platform engineering expertise with the curiosity and capability to design and build agentic systems - software agents that can reason, act, and automate tasks safely within enterprise environments.

Key responsibilities include:

Cloud & Platform Engineering:

  • Design, implement, and operate scalable, secure, and reliable cloud infrastructure, primarily on Google Cloud Platform, using Infrastructure as Code (IaC).

  • Own end‑to‑end solutions, from design and implementation through to live‑service operation and continuous improvement.

  • Define and enhance platform standards, patterns, and guardrails to improve reliability, security, and developer experience.

  • Monitor platform and pipeline performance, diagnose issues, and drive optimisations to ensure high availability and resilience.

DevOps & Automation:

  • Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines to streamline application and platform delivery.

  • Lead the automation of repeatable operational processes, reducing manual intervention and increasing consistency.

  • Integrate security controls, compliance requirements, and policy‑as‑code into pipelines and runtime environments.

  • Maintain clear, up‑to‑date documentation covering infrastructure, deployment processes, and operational procedures.

Agentic & AI‑Enabled Engineering:

  • Design and develop agentic automation capabilities, where software agents can:

  • reason over goals and constraints,

  • plan and complete actions,

  • interact with tools, APIs, and cloud services,

  • collaborate with human‑led workflows.

  • Engineer production‑ready agent runtimes, including state management, tooling execution, observability, and failure handling.

  • Extend DevOps and platform tooling to safely support agentic, automated and user-centered workflows, ensuring appropriate controls, permissions, and auditability.

  • Apply engineering rigour to emerging AI patterns, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and operable in an enterprise security context.

Collaboration & Technical Leadership:

  • Work closely with Product Owners, engineers, and security collaborators to build and deliver customer‑focused products.

  • Act as a technical authority and mentor, supporting the development of colleagues across DevOps, cloud, and emerging AI practices.

  • Promote Agile ways of working and a culture of continuous improvement, experimentation, and learning.

  • Contribute beyond your immediate delivery scope, engaging in lab‑wide and platform‑level initiatives.

If you think all banks are the same, you’re wrong. We’re a pioneering, fast-changing business that’s shaping finance as a force for good. If you’re after a role where you can have an impact and do the best work of your career, you’ve just found it

What we’re looking for?

  • Experience with agentic or AI‑enabled engineering, including building or operating agent‑based automation that reasons, plans, and interacts with tools or cloud services.

  • Strong cloud & platform engineering experience, designing and operating secure, scalable, highly available platforms – ideally on Google Cloud Platform – using Infrastructure as Code.

  • End‑to‑end DevOps ownership, covering design, build, deployment, live‑service operation, monitoring, and ongoing improvement of production platforms.

  • Deep experience with CI/CD and automation, including building and maintaining pipelines, automating operational processes, and reducing manual intervention.

  • Proven ability to embed security and compliance by design, integrating policy‑as‑code, security controls, and auditability across pipelines and runtime environments.

  • Hands‑on experience building production‑grade platforms, with strong observability, resilience, incident diagnosis, and performance optimisation.

  • Technical leadership and collaboration skills, working closely with product, engineering, and security partners, mentoring others, and contributing to platform‑wide standards and ways of working.

And any experience of these would be great…

  • Exposure to enterprise‑scale data or agentic products, particularly in regulated or security‑sensitive environments.

  • Experience shaping platform standards and developer experience, influencing patterns, guardrails, and protocol across multiple teams.

This is a place for you…
