Cloud Engineer (AWS)
Location: Our offices are in Central London, along with several of our customers. Travel to our customer sites is required, the frequency of which will vary from customer-to-customer. You need to be able to travel onsite to London up to 3 days per week, although onsite requirements will vary week-to-week and customer-to-customer from 0 to 3 days.
Salary: £45,000 - £70,000
Defence/SC Clearance Requirements:
Due to working with a number of government bodies, SC clearance is required for our customer facing teams. You do not need active SC clearance as we will undertake checks upon you joining, but you must be eligible to pass SC clearance. In future, DV clearance may be required, so the ability/willingness to pass DV clearance is advantageous but not essential.
Due to the nature of this project we are only able to accept UK based applicants for this role
About us
We help major public and private sector organisations scale cloud and AI with speed, control and clarity. Hard-won experience sits behind a values-led business that does the right thing, puts customers first and builds partnerships on trust rather than lock-in.
Our work is practical. We design secure, production-ready foundations that hold up in the real world and deliver lasting value, without the waste that slows most transformations down. And we don't advise from the sidelines. We build, fix and deliver ourselves, with no offshoring, no resource-padding and no compromises.
What you'll do
You'll work closely with our customers' stakeholders, advising them through complex cloud transformations. You'll work alongside our Senior and Principal Engineers, using your skills to help deliver best-in-class cloud platforms, operating models and security models.
Build, test, package, deploy and operate cloud platforms alongside shared platform tooling.
Automate the build of cloud infrastructure resources.
Package services into AMIs, Docker containers or Serverless deployments.
Create IaC using Terraform (or CloudFormation) and Packer.
Deliver platform improvements and new tools.
Work within an agile environment.
Kubernetes administration.
What we're looking for
We're looking for Cloud Engineers who have built, tested, packaged, deployed and operated cloud platforms. You may also understand the challenges of managing a multi-tenant platform and how SRE principles apply.
The foundation we care about most is a genuine understanding of platform and infrastructure engineering concepts. We work on AWS, so AWS experience is beneficial, but a strong grounding in Azure, GCP or multi-cloud is just as welcome if the fundamentals are there. Landing zone experience is a nice signal of that understanding, but it isn't a requirement.
Experience building cloud resources using Terraform or other IaC, and competent in Python for Lambda or equivalent serverless development.
Understands the Shared Responsibility model, the key challenges of using public cloud, and its benefits versus on-premises.
Can build, deploy and operate containers, ideally Docker.
Can create security guardrails (such as SCPs and Config, or the equivalents in your cloud of choice) and understands the shared security model.
Knows platform engineering concepts, including the difference between platform and DevOps.
Understands the challenges of operating services in production.
Experience with cloud security services. AWS security services specifically are a plus.
Kubernetes experience.
We hire for curiosity as much as current skill. If you build and tinker with technology for the love of it, and you're keen to grow fast alongside senior engineers, you'll fit well here.
