What's It Like to Work at Trail of Bits?

At Trail of Bits I get to do the most interesting technical work, surrounded by a smart and friendly group of peers, with a management team that really supports their employees.

At Trail of Bits, we have a diversity of interests and expertise. There's a lot of flexibility that allows me to focus on the areas where I have the best skills and where I have the most interest.

I work 9-5 my time and rarely have to do any work outside of normal work hours. I get enough time during the day to work on long-term projects, and I enjoy having the space to do interesting, experimental things and learn something new.

My coworkers generally have deep knowledge in a technical area such as systems engineering, software vulnerabilities, cryptography, or something else and many are organized, good at communicating, and work well with a team. To be successful on the team I think it is best to be open minded, willing to learn new things, and easy to work with.

Half of Trail of Bits is remote, so online collaboration and communication keeps us running. We make heavy use of Slack, Google Docs, Github, Trello, and video calls. Each project has its own Github repository and Slack channel, where most project communication occurs. A weekly video call provides high-level updates to the whole company.

My team is full of a bunch of smart people, and I like to cater how I work with people to what’s best for them. We really value personal development because we like investing in our teammates. When we invest in them, it pays off for the whole team.

At Trail of Bits, you get to do a lot of things that you love and get to nurture a variety of different skills instead of just being good at one thing. It creates this environment where you improve, not because you're forced to, but because you want to.
