Overview of the Department/Section

The Living Sector Finance team sits within the Structured Finance Office for EMEA and is responsible for the origination, structuring and execution of Real Estate Finance transactions across the UK and Europe.

The team provides financing solutions to institutional sponsors and financial institution clients, with a primary focus on the Living Sector. Core areas of coverage include Purpose-Built Student Accommodation (PBSA), Build-to-Rent (BtR) and Affordable Housing.

As part of MUFG's strategic growth ambitions within Real Estate Finance, the team is expanding its activities across both Living Sectors and Logistics. Logistics has been identified as a key strategic growth area for the Bank, creating an opportunity to broaden client coverage, develop sector expertise and establish a scalable lending franchise across the UK and Europe.

Working closely with Sponsor Coverage, Syndication, Credit, Legal and other product partners, the team originates and executes tailored financing solutions for clients whilst maintaining a strong focus on credit quality, risk management and long-term client relationships.

Team members are expected to play an active role in supporting business development, transaction origination, structuring and execution, whilst contributing to the continued growth of the Living Sector platform and the development of MUFG's Logistics strategy across EMEA.

Main Purpose of the Role 

To support the continued growth of MUFG's Real Estate Finance business through the origination, structuring and execution of financing transactions across the Living Sector and Logistics. The role holder will be responsible for identifying and developing new business opportunities, leading transaction execution processes and managing internal approval requirements across a range of complex real estate financing transactions.

Working closely with Sponsor Coverage, Credit, Syndication, Risk Management, Legal and other internal stakeholders, the role holder will play a key role in delivering tailored financing solutions for institutional sponsors and financial institution clients across the UK and Europe.

A key aspect of the role will be supporting the development and implementation of MUFG's Logistics strategy, including building sector expertise, establishing lending parameters, securing internal approvals and originating new transaction opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Originate, structure and execute Real Estate Finance transactions across the Living Sector and Logistics sectors throughout the UK and Europe.
  • Support the continued growth of MUFG's Living Sector franchise, with a focus on Purpose-Built Student Accommodation (PBSA), Build-to-Rent (BtR) and Affordable Housing.
  • Play a key role in the development and implementation of MUFG's Logistics lending strategy, including supporting internal approvals, establishing sector expertise and originating new business opportunities.
  • Identify, evaluate and pursue financing opportunities with institutional sponsors and financial institution clients.
  • Lead transaction execution processes from origination through to financial close, coordinating internal and external stakeholders throughout the transaction lifecycle.
  • Prepare and present high-quality credit applications, approval papers, committee materials and transaction recommendations.
  • Undertake detailed financial analysis, cashflow modelling, transaction structuring and risk assessment to support lending decisions.
  • Coordinate transaction due diligence processes, including engagement with legal advisers, valuation providers, technical consultants and other external stakeholders.
  • Review and negotiate financing documentation alongside internal Legal teams and external counsel.
  • Work closely with Sponsor Coverage, Syndication, Credit, Legal and other product partners to ensure successful transaction execution.
  • Maintain oversight of transaction pipelines and provide regular updates to senior management on deal progression and business development activity.
  • Monitor market trends, sector developments and competitor activity across Living Sectors and Logistics.
  • Support internal portfolio management, credit and risk teams by providing sector expertise and transaction-specific insights where required.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients, sponsors, lenders, advisers and other market participants to support business growth.

Work Experience

  • Extensive experience within Real Estate Finance, Commercial Real Estate Lending, Structured Finance, Investment Banking or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience originating, structuring and executing commercial real estate financing transactions.
  • Experience preparing credit applications, committee papers and obtaining internal credit approvals.
  • Experience managing transaction due diligence, documentation and execution processes.
  • Strong experience working with institutional sponsors, financial institutions and professional advisers.
  • Experience of Living Sector asset classes, including PBSA, Build-to-Rent and/or Affordable Housing.
  • Experience underwriting and executing Logistics financing transactions is highly desirable.
  • Experience operating within a risk-controlled lending environment and working closely with Credit and Risk functions.

  • Strong understanding of UK and European real estate markets.
  • Commercial mindset with the ability to identify and evaluate business opportunities.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple transactions and competing priorities simultaneously.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and other financial analysis tools.

Education / Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification in Finance, Economics, Real Estate, Business or a related discipline and or equivalent work experience.
  • Relevant professional qualifications (e.g. CFA, ACA, MRICS or equivalent) are advantageous but not essential.
