Welcome to Hastings Direct

We’re a digital insurance provider with ambitious plans to become the best and biggest in the UK market. We’ve made huge investments in our pricing and data capabilities over the past few years, along with nurturing our 4Cs culture.

We provide insurance for over four million customers, but we know there’s even bigger opportunity out there – our Pricing, Data and Analytics community value curiosity, collaboration and constructive challenge.

We are always looking for new ideas and diverse perspectives to question established thinking and drive meaningful change. Great pricing is built on trust, innovation and precision, so our aim is to ensure customers receive a fair and accurate price based on their individual risk, supporting fair outcomes, while delivering sustainable and profitable growth for our company.

Pricing is more than just a number – it’s a strategic capability. At the heart of Hastings is deep risk insight – continually improving how we assess, segment and price risk through data and analytics.

Role overview:

We are entering a period where cars will develop faster in the next 10 years than they have in the past 50 years. This goes beyond their propulsion methods (EV development) and includes wider design, construction and technology developments. All of which has wide implications for the risk motor insurers are covering. This is a new role focusing on building Hastings knowledge and understanding of these developments, and how they are interpreted into vehicle risk selection and the terms applied.
The Vehicle Data Analyst role will play a part in the growing Vehicle Underwriting team at Hastings tasked with gaining a greater understanding of the rapidly changing vehicle industry and UK car parc. This knowledge will assist us set vehicle terms, excesses and other conditional acceptance rules.

Job details:

With a collaborative team around you (reporting to the Vehicle Underwriting Manager), your role is to influence and innovate in our vehicle related decision making. Everything we do starts and ends with our data and vehicle knowledge, so whether it’s by drawing insights from it, exploring new ways of how we use it, or finding value in more that we can add to it, you’ll be up close and personal with the work that makes a direct impact on the day-to-day success of the business.

You’ll collaborate with other areas of our department and company to bring a new source to life and will have the opportunity to own/share ideas to executive level to make real impactful changes.
However far we delve into the data, we feel it’s important to keep sight of the bigger picture; we’re looking for people who are comfortable and confident with numerical and statistical information, that are able to explain what they are seeing with a range of detail to stakeholders. We want you to take the initiative, be accountable and honest for the approaches you take.
If you’re interested in data & vehicles with the right mindset & curiosity, we want to hear from you!

Essential skills/experience:

An interest in vehicles as we look to build out our expertise in the Vehicle Underwriting team. Projects and proposals will always be vehicle focused so this is a great opportunity to make a passion part of your career.
We’d love it if you knew your way around an analytical programming environment, whether that be Python, R, SQL or any other language/toolkit that you use to find solutions.
Whilst the technical skills to yield results are an element of your skillset, we understand that people may not apply for roles unless they tick every box.
