Introducing User Research at Trainline

User Research is central to how we understand our customers and support product decision-making. Researchers at Trainline are embedded within cross-functional product teams, working closely with product managers, designers, engineers, data scientists and analysts.

User Research sits within the wider Product & Data organisation. We work collaboratively, value clear and practical insight, and focus on delivering research that helps teams make confident, evidence based decisions.

The role

We’re looking for a UX Researcher to join us on a 12-month fixed term contract. This role is primarily focused on executing research to support existing product teams, priorities and roadmaps.

You’ll join an established research team with clear context, ways of working and support from senior researchers. Your focus will be on delivering high quality qualitative (and some quantitative) research, helping teams understand user needs, test ideas and improve the customer experience.

This role is well suited to someone who enjoys hands-on research delivery, is comfortable working to defined briefs, and wants to make a meaningful contribution within a fixed timeframe.

As a UX Researcher at Trainline, you will…

  • Execute qualitative research such as usability testing, user interviews, and concept testing to support product discovery and delivery.

  • Support quantitative research activities (e.g. surveys) where appropriate, working within existing approaches and guidance.

  • Work closely with product managers and designers to plan and deliver research aligned to agreed priorities.

  • Synthesise findings into clear, actionable insights and share them with teams through presentations, reports and workshops.

  • Contribute to ongoing discovery and evaluation work across one or more product teams.

  • Work within established research frameworks, tools and standards, with support from senior researchers.

  • Support and guide designers in doing some of their own small-scale research e.g. simple usability testing and short surveys

We’d love to hear from you if you have…

  • Proven applied UX or product research experience, ideally within digital products or services.

  • Experience running hands-on qualitative research, with some exposure to quantitative methods or a strong interest in developing this further.

  • Confidence delivering research to defined briefs and timelines.

  • The ability to interpret behavioural and attitudinal data and communicate insights clearly to non-researchers.

  • Experience collaborating with designers, product managers or engineers in a product development environment.

  • A practical, delivery-focused mindset and strong organisational skills.

Experience in travel, ecommerce, or other complex, data-rich products is a bonus, but not essential.

About this contract

This role is a 12-month fixed term contract. You’ll receive a structured handover and join a supportive research team with established priorities and ways of working. The focus of the role is continuity and delivery, rather than long-term ownership or strategic leadership.
