Job Description

To support our site and customer freight operations in the UK, P&G has invested to establish our own truck fleet, which is based in our Operating Centers at London DC and Skelmersdale DC. We have a unique opportunity to join P&G to lead the operations and development of our UK fleet as our UK Transport Manager.

Role Overview:
The Transport Manager will oversee end-to-end operations at our two Operation Centers (West Thurrock and Skelmersdale) and manage a team of two dispatchers and over 20 drivers. The role is based in P&G UK’s largest Distribution Centre in West Thurrock, with company funded travel a few days a month to Skelmersdale. Responsibilities of the role include:

  • Operation License Holder: you will be responsible for the full UK fleet of 20 trucks (40 trailers fleet).

  • Team Leadership: you are responsible for the team within the fleet, including people management, ensuring that all drivers and operators have the correct qualifications, and team retention.  

  • Operations Leadership: you will ensure robust operations on intersite and customer freight lanes, managing the day-to-day operation and ensuring on-time delivery and regulatory compliance. You will also manage the short and mid-term planning of the operation.

  • Documentation Ownership: you are responsible for the full package of operational documents: driver instructions, service schedule, insurance renewals etc.

  • Vehicle Inspection and Maintenance: you will ensure vehicles are properly maintained and inspected on a regular basis and arrange repairs and routine maintenance when required.

  • Budget Ownership: you are responsible for budgeting of cost end-to-end in collaboration with finance as well as maintaining cost as per forecasting.

Job Qualifications

What We Look For

  • Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) (National and International)

  • Background in transport industry including launch of new transport operations or/and managing transport operations.

  • Evidenced leadership skills, including people management experience.

  • Evidenced quantitative skills with large sets of data which will allow you to handle budgets, schedules and data sets etc.

  • Fluency in English with effective collaboration and communications skills within a multicultural and multifunctional environment.
