Job Description

At Syngenta, our goal is to build the most collaborative and trustworthy team in agriculture, providing top-quality seeds and innovative crop protection solutions that improve farmers' success. To support this mission, we are seeking a motivated Technical Expert – Toxicology to join our dynamic team based in Jealott’s Hill as Technical Expert in the EU regulatory toxicology team. In this role, you will contribute to ensuring the safety and regulatory compliance of our crop protection products in the European market. You will support human toxicology technical project inputs into multidisciplinary EU teams, interpret complex scientific data, and engage with regulatory requirements for active substances, metabolites, and product registration processes.

Accountabilities

  • Support toxicology project data management and contribute to strategy development for EU project teams
  • Prepare and review toxicology sections of regulatory submissions for EU plant protection product registrations and renewals
  • Collaborate with risk assessment teams to communicate safety evaluations
  • Work cross-functionally to support integrated strategies for new product development and extending existing product registrations
  • Engage with regulatory authorities (EFSA, ECHA, etc.) and contribute to regulatory forums as appropriate
  • Stay current with EU regulations, scientific developments, and emerging issues in toxicology
  • Contribute to technical training and best practices within the EU toxicology team
  • Participate in industry task forces and working groups as required

Qualifications

  • Degree in life sciences, biology, biomedicine, chemistry, or a related field — PhD preferred
  • Good knowledge of EU regulatory frameworks, ideally in the r plant protection products sector
  • Experience in managing toxicology projects and contributing to regulatory submissions
  • Strong scientific writing and data interpretation skills
  • Experience or background in risk assessment and safety evaluation of chemical substances is a distinct advantage
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams
  • Familiarity with current trends and emerging issues in toxicology and risk assessment
  • Ability to utilise digital skills would be an advantage

Growth & Development

This role offers the opportunity to broaden your expertise beyond hazard assessment into non-dietary risk assessment (NDRA), with structured development pathways available for candidates who demonstrate aptitude and interest in this area. Candidates with an existing foundation in risk assessment methodology are particularly encouraged to apply.

Jealott's Hill International Research Centre UK is situated in pleasant semi-rural surroundings between Bracknell and Maidenhead and is the place of work for approximately 800 Syngenta scientists and support staff. Jealott’s Hill is one of the main global research and development sites and key activities include research into discovery of new active ingredients, new formulation technologies, product safety and technical support of our product range.
