Ciena’s Solutions Engineering & Introduction team within Product Line Management helps bring innovative optical networking solutions to market through technical validation, customer engagement, and cross-functional collaboration. This engineering role contributes to successful product introductions by creating customer-facing deliverables, validating new features, and supporting demonstrations, trials, and deployments. The position offers the opportunity to work across Product Development, Product Management, Sales Engineering, Services, and customer teams in a dynamic environment.

How you will make an impact:

  • Manage lab assets and maintain optical lab systems to enable engineering and solution validation activities.
  • Develop customer-facing technical presentations, test plans, release notes, and engineering documentation.
  • Create and validate technical deliverables for new product features and solution introductions.
  • Execute product demonstrations, lab evaluations, field trials, deployments, and solution tests.
  • Capture product issues and enhancement requests and channel feedback into research and development processes.
  • Provide technical consultation, solution evaluation, design guidance, and engineering expertise throughout customer engagements.
  • Resolve complex field issues escalated from Global Technical Support teams.

The must haves:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Applied Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience: 3+ years of telecommunications and optical transport systems experience with an understanding of photonic technologies and optical protocols.
  • Strong organisational skills with attention to detail and effective team collaboration capabilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Ability to present technical and non-technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to prioritise work effectively in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
  • Ability to collaborate successfully across multiple time zones and cultures.

Nice to haves:

  • Experience with instrumentation, laboratory environments, and test methodologies.
  • Hands-on experience with optical measurements, including optical spectrum analysers (OSA).
  • Knowledge of Python programming for automation or engineering applications.
  • Familiarity with WebUI technologies and data formats such as JSON.
  • Exposure to northbound interfaces, including NETCONF.
