Make an Impact at RSM UK

The Technical Solution Architect ensures solutions built on RSM’s shared Azure platform are sound, secure and consistent with agreed architecture standards, principles and guardrails. The role combines deep technical architecture expertise with end-to-end solution design and objective solution assurance.

RSM operates a federated IT model across the UK, supported by a shared Azure platform and Databricks-based data platform (plus others). The post-holder will work across technical architecture, solution architecture and solution assurance, with the balance varying according to business priorities, project demand and the needs of the wider Enterprise Architecture function.

You will make an impact by:

  • Technical architecture: Define and maintain technical reference architectures, reusable patterns and standards across Azure platform, infrastructure, integration, identity, networking and data services.
  • Contribute to the evolution of the shared Azure platform, including landing zones, private connectivity, identity and access, key management, policy and non-functional requirements.
  • Assess technologies and investigate complex performance, resilience, security, operability and cost issues, producing evidence-based recommendations and remediations.
  • Maintain technical architecture artefacts, including platform roadmaps, standards documentation and technology and software asset information.
  • Solution architecture: Translate business and functional requirements into secure end-to-end designs covering components, integrations, data flows, hosting and non-functional needs.
  • Produce clear solution designs, diagrams, options appraisals and Architecture Decision Records, evaluating build, buy and SaaS options with explicit trade-offs.
  • Promote reuse of approved platform services, integration routes and data patterns; identify risks and dependencies early and guide delivery teams through implementation.
  • Solution assurance: Review innovation and in-flight solutions against agreed standards, principles and guardrails using code, infrastructure-as-code, pipeline configuration and design artefacts as evidence.
  • Apply a consistent review method and produce concise, actionable findings that distinguish guardrail breaches from design preferences and point teams towards approved patterns.
  • Track findings and exceptions through to resolution, record approved deviations and provide written assurance input to the Architecture Review Board.
  • Help shape the assurance capability by improving criteria, checklists, templates and guardrails, and by identifying controls that can move from manual review into platform policy or pipeline gates.

What we are looking for:

  • Significant hands-on experience designing and delivering solutions on Microsoft Azure.
  • Ability to read and assess application code, infrastructure-as-code and pipeline configuration, including technologies such as C#/.NET, Python or Terraform.
  • Strong knowledge of Azure landing zones, networking and private connectivity, Entra ID, managed identities, RBAC, Key Vault and Azure Policy – or equivalent alternative Cloud components.
  • Sound understanding of CI/CD, environment promotion, release controls, threat modelling, secure development, resilience, observability and cost management.
  • Experience applying architecture standards, principles and controls consistently and objectively in a federated or multi-team environment.
  • Ability to form evidence-based technical judgements and produce clear, precise and well-structured designs, findings and recommendations.
  • Methodical, detail-oriented approach to analysis, problem-solving and stakeholder communication.
