Engineering Manager

Hybrid working at our office in Wimbledon.

Full Time, Permanent Position

Domestic & General is growing rapidly in 12 countries, protecting the appliances that keep households running and helping to reduce waste by extending product lifespans. Recognised by Great Place to Work and the Inclusive Employers Standard, we're building a modern, inclusive culture and are looking for an Engineering Manager to play a key role in shaping how engineering is delivered across the organisation.

The Role

As an Engineering Manager, you'll create the environment where engineering teams can do their best work. Leading multiple squads of Engineers, QAs and Tech Leads, you'll build high-performing teams that deliver quality applications while fostering a culture of ownership, collaboration and continuous improvement.

Working closely with Tech Leads, Practice Managers, and Product and Engineering leaders, you'll provide clear direction, develop future leaders and help shape how engineering is delivered across the organisation. You'll balance short-term delivery priorities with long-term capability building, ensuring teams remain engaged, effective and ready to meet future challenges.

This role is ideal for a people-focused leader who is passionate about developing talent, improving team performance and creating lasting impact through great engineering teams.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Building engineering capability through talent development, succession planning and targeted growth initiatives.
  • Driving continuous improvement to enhance delivery performance, quality, predictability and team effectiveness.
  • Partnering with engineering, product and practice leaders to evolve operating models, ways of working and organisational performance.
  • Fostering an inclusive, high-performing culture that promotes accountability, innovation and continuous learning.
  • Using data and workforce insights to inform decisions, manage risk, and ensure teams have the capacity and capability to deliver strategic priorities.
  • Influencing workforce planning and resource allocation to build sustainable, high-performing teams.
  • Supporting operational resilience through effective incident management, continuous learning and risk reduction.
  • Championing engineering excellence, collaboration and knowledge sharing, while leading organisational change and influencing senior stakeholders.

About You

We are looking for someone who can clearly demonstrate experience across the following areas:

  • Engineering or testing practices and frameworks, with the technical credibility to coach teams, challenge constructively and support sound technical decisions without owning solution design.
  • Coaching, developing and line managing engineers and testers.
  • Building and sustaining high-performing teams.
  • Understanding what motivates engineers and QAs, and creating the conditions for individuals and teams to thrive.
  • Supporting live production systems, including incident management, diagnosis, triage and resolution.
  • Working with Agile delivery approaches, including Scrum and Kanban.
  • Collaborating effectively within cross-functional teams and influencing a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Recruiting engineering talent with the skills, behaviours and potential required to build strong teams.

We offer lots of great benefits! Some of which include:

  • Competitive salary and annual discretionary bonus
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank/public holidays, as well as an annual option to buy up to 5 additional days of annual leave
  • Training opportunities as well as clearly defined career progression
  • Health cash plan – employer funded cover to enable you to claim money back on essential healthcare costs, including dental, optical, physiotherapy and many more.  Cover also includes unlimited access to a 24/7 virtual GP service
  • Attractive company pension scheme
  • Life assurance – employer funded cover of 4x basic salary
  • Dedicated online benefit portal offering access to saving and lending facilities, financial wellbeing and support services:
  • Salary Finance – access to savings and borrowing through payroll
  • Car Leasing – access to a carbon neutral salary sacrifice car leasing scheme, with an all-inclusive monthly cost covering all charge, taxes, insurance, repairs and maintenance on a range of brand-new vehicles
  • Travel Loans – interest free loans to help spread the cost of annual travel tickets
  • Cycle to Work – tax efficient bike and cycling equipment worth up to £1,000
  • Health & Wellbeing – discounted gym membership, online virtual workout sessions, online culinary classes
  • OnHand – Giving you the opportunity to be an Eco & Social volunteer via a handy app. Volunteer individually or in groups to get involved in Youth Mentoring, Food Poverty, Homelessness & Elderly help.
  • Employee Assistance Programme – specialist advice and support on issues such as finance, relationships, illness and family issues
  • Free Domestic & General protection plan – one free plan each year with access to discounted rates of up to 50% on additional plans, including referrals for family and friends
  • Employee discounts – with a range of discounts for 100s of online and high street retailers
