The Team:
Our Finance & Tax team in Madrid is a group of high-performing professionals dedicated to navigating the complexities of the global fiscal landscape. We act as strategic partners to the business, ensuring compliance while driving efficiency through data and automation. The Role:

As a Finance & Tax Intern, you will dive deep into the world of indirect US taxation and statutory reporting. This isn't just about "crunching numbers"—it’s about understanding the financial heartbeat of a global tech leader. You will support our tax experts in everything from Direct and Indirect Tax compliance to Transfer Pricing and R&D credits. We are looking for a detail-oriented student who is eager to learn how a modern finance department operates and who isn't afraid to leverage AI and automation to optimize traditional processes

The work you’ll do:

  • Compliance & Filing: Assisting with US Sales & Use Tax compliance obligations, tracking State and Local Tax (SALT) economic nexus thresholds, and coordinating state and local municipal business license renewals.
  • Gross Receipts, Commercial Rent & State Taxes: Supporting compliance, data compilation, and filing requirements for US local gross receipts taxes, Ohio Commercial Activity Tax (CAT), the New York City Commercial Rent Tax (CRT), and other state/municipal indirect tax obligations.
  • Property Tax & Audit Readiness & Exemption Management: Assisting with local business personal property tax filings (such as compiling data for asset listings and Form of List compliance) and US State Tax Audit readiness through comprehensive data compilation. Supporting the review, management, and validation of customer Sales Tax Exemption Certificates.
  • Data Analysis: Supporting data gathering, account reconciliations, and employee/transaction analysis for US product taxability matrices, local headcount-based fees, and state tax calculations.
  • Tax Systems & Automation: Contributing to the development and testing of tax automation tools, specifically focusing on Avalara Use Tax implementations and AI solutions to optimize indirect tax processes.


The qualifications you need:

  • Academic Background: Graduated degree in Law, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Language Skills: Mandatory fluency in English, both written and verbal, for daily collaboration with US teams.
  • Technical & AI Skills: Tech-savvy with a strong command of Microsoft Excel alongside a keen interest or experience in leveraging AI tools and prompts to optimize workflows.
  • Soft Skills & Communication: An analytical mindset, proactive attitude, meticulous attention to detail, and strong communication skills necessary to effectively articulate tax requirements, and coordinate across internal teams.
  • Experience: Prior exposure to an accounting or tax environment is highly valued, but not required.
  • Location: Based in Madrid to work one-site from our Celonis Madrid Office
