Role: System Integration Engineer (Maternity Cover)

Department: Engineering - Hardware

Location: London

Reports into: Head of Hardware Platforms

Contract: Fixed Term - 12 months

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a System Integration Engineer to join our hardware team on a 12 month fixed term contract, covering a period of maternity leave.

Our hardware team designs, integrates and industrialises the media servers and processing hardware behind live events, broadcast, theatre and immersive experiences. System Integration Engineers sit at the point where mechanical design, electronics, firmware and operating system software meet, and are responsible for making sure the whole product works as one reliable system rather than a collection of good parts.

This is a hands-on role with real ownership. You will pick up live new product introduction work already in flight, so you will spend your first weeks building context quickly and then run your own areas of the integration and test effort.

Whilst your primary role will be to build pre-configured Windows OS Images for our different models of server, you will also work closely with mechanical and electronics engineering, firmware and software teams, procurement, and our contract manufacturing and component suppliers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIESIntegration and bring up
  • Integrate hardware, firmware and operating system elements into working systems and take new builds through bring up.
  • Own the resolution of integration issues end to end, from first symptom through root cause to a verified fix.
  • Contribute to BIOS and operating system level configuration and validation on new platforms.
Test and validation
  • Write, run and maintain hardware test plans covering functional, environmental, thermal and stress testing.
  • Build and improve test rigs, fixtures and automated test scripts to make validation repeatable.
  • Record results clearly and translate test data into engineering decisions and evidence for design sign off.
Working across teams
  • Act as a technical point of contact for internal teams who depend on hardware readiness, including software, product and customer support.
  • Translate technical detail into clear, accessible updates for non specialist audiences, including customer facing notes on hardware and firmware changes.
WHAT YOU WILL BRINGEssential
  • Experience in a hardware, systems or test engineering role, integrating hardware and software into complete products.
  • Practical fault finding ability across electrical, mechanical and software boundaries, with a structured approach to root cause analysis.
  • Comfort with lab equipment and hands on work
  • Working knowledge of PC architecture and server hardware, including BIOS, firmware and operating system installation and configuration.
  • Ability to write clear technical documentation and test procedures that other people can follow.
  • Scripting ability for test automation and data handling, for example Python, Bash or Powershell.
  • Organised and self directed, able to pick up in flight work quickly and keep several workstreams moving.
  • Collaborative and clear communicator, comfortable working with suppliers and with colleagues outside engineering.
Desirable
  • Experience with video and display technologies, including DisplayPort, HDMI, SDI or IP video.
  • Exposure to new product introduction and the transition from prototype to mass-production.
  • Experience working with contract manufacturers and managing supplier quality issues.
  • Familiarity with GPU based servers, high performance computing hardware or real time media processing.
  • Background in live events, broadcast, theatre, film or another creative technology sector.
  • Experience with PLM or ERP systems and formal engineering change control.
  • Familiarity with issue tracking and documentation tools such as Jira and Confluence.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

Because this is a fixed term cover role, the first weeks are deliberately weighted towards handover and context building. You will take ownership of your own learning, and in return, you will be given guidance from our Senior Systems Integration engineer. We expect you to have many questions, especially at first!

First month
  • Completed handover, with a clear picture of active workstreams, open issues and key contacts across engineering, procurement and suppliers.
  • Independently running routine test and integration tasks.
  • You will have built your first Production-ready Windows image.
First three months
  • Owning your own areas of integration and validation, including test planning and issue resolution.
  • Recognised by internal teams and suppliers as the point of contact for those areas.
Across the contract
  • Delivered your assigned integration and validation milestones to schedule and to quality.
  • Left documentation, test assets and issue records in a state that supports a clean handover back at the end of the contract.
