The Syndicate Accountant manages financial processes for allocated syndicates, ensuring accurate reporting, regulatory compliance, and collaboration with stakeholders, while maintaining high service standards.
Polo Managing Agency is a provider of outsourced managing agency services within the Lloyd’s market. Due to business growth, a Syndicate Accountant role is available, reporting to the Syndicate Financial Controller (“SFC”) and responsible for day-to-day activities of the syndicate finance function. You must have a solid syndicate background and have detailed Lloyd's returns experience.
Key Responsibilities
To control the finance processes for the allocated syndicates. This includes: financial management, financial close, regulatory reporting and internal controls, prior to review by the SFC . The role includes liaising closely with clients, plus internal and external stakeholders, to ensure robust processes are in place and the full range of finance tasks are completed to a good standard.
- Review syndicate bookkeeping entries and controls operated by the outsourced service provider (a Cheltenham based Polo service company).
- Prepare/Review Syndicate management accounts, including analytical review of results.
- Prepare/Review key balance sheet reconciliations.
- Prepare/Review Lloyd’s returns including QMA Delta, QMB, Flash, Interim and Year-end Report and Accounts (includes “tagging”).
- Prepare/Review Solvency UK returns.
- Prepare/Review Overseas Reporting including schedules F&P, US and Canadian SIS.
- Assist with planning and production of Syndicate annual report and accounts.
- Prepare management information for Syndicate Management Committees.
- Contribute to the development of systems for syndicate reporting.
- Respond to client and internal queries as required, maintaining a high level of service throughout.
- Liase with Auditors.
- Support project work, including new syndicate launches as required.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Must be highly proficient with the Microsoft applications, particularly Excel.
Excellent organizational skills, ability to multi-task.

Knowledge & Qualifications
2+ years of insurance industry experience in a syndicate reporting role or auditing Lloyd’s syndicates
Experience in dealing with change and process improvement
Qualified accountant
