Overview
Mastercard is seeking a highly motivated and experienced senior litigation lawyer - SVP, Assistant General Counsel, Litigation - to lead the defence of complex, high-profile antitrust and commercial litigation in the UK and across Europe. Based in London and joining the global litigation team, the SVP will play a central role in shaping Mastercard's litigation strategy and will work closely with business partners and internal and external legal teams. This role offers the opportunity to work on precedent-setting litigation at the intersection of commercial and competition law, payments and regulation. The SVP will provide strategic guidance to senior business executives and legal leadership and will manage a significant docket of high-profile litigation, a large external counsel network and budget. The role reports to the EVP, General Counsel, Litigation, and currently has one direct report.
Role
In this senior leadership position, you will:
• Lead strategy for complex UK and European commercial and antitrust litigation matters, including class actions.
• Serve as a strategic advisor to senior business executives and cross-functional stakeholders on litigation, legal and financial risk, and business decisions.
• Partner with investor relations, communications and executive leadership to manage reputational risk and external messaging.
• Oversee e-discovery strategy and litigation-related data governance across evolving data environments.
All About You
The ideal candidate for this position should have:
• Extensive experience leading high-risk, complex commercial and antitrust litigation, including class actions in the UK and Europe. Additional exposure to leading antitrust and regulatory investigations would be a plus.
• Strong leadership experience managing multiple teams, cross-functional initiatives and external counsel relationships.
• A strategic mindset, with the ability to connect the dots, be proactive and challenge thinking constructively.
• Proven ability to advise and influence senior executives and boards on highly sensitive and strategic issues.
• A business-minded, solutions-oriented and pragmatic approach to problem solving in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills, with proven experience building relationships and partnering effectively; must work well in both team and individual settings.
