Citi’s Global Corporate Strategy team supports the leadership of the Bank in the development, articulation, and ongoing implementation of its strategy. Our focus is on generating insightful analysis and generating results that help the Bank to deliver on our commitments to investors. We support our business partners in identifying opportunities for growth as well as opportunities for internal business optimisation and play a key role in managing Strategic Risk.

Business / Team Overview

The Global Strategy team is structured in alignment with the key business lines of Citi.

  • As part of the Global Strategy team you will gain insights into the overall strategy of the bank
  • In terms of business focus, this role is based in London and reports directly to the Strategy Head for the Banking & International Divisions.

Some of the key responsibilities in the role:

  • Identify strategic themes and propose opportunities for impactful project work
  • Lead projects across their lifecycle: structuring the problem, analysing root causes, developing solutions, communicating project results and getting buy-in for change. The scope of projects will vary but may include:
    • Opportunities for revenue growth including market / product / client strategies
    • Opportunities for business optimization including recommendations on operational management, capital allocation, profitability enhancement, etc.
    • Deep dives on specific business lines to reassess strategies and opportunities
    • Working with the businesses in the execution of key improvement strategies, coordinating and taking active part in the implementation process.
  • Develop presentations for senior management, Citigroup Board of Directors and key external stakeholders. Synthesize key findings, recommendations and strategic priorities
  • Work in close partnership with senior business leadership and key functional partners. Coordinate communications with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Appropriately assess risk, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
  • Perform other duties and functions as assigned

  • Strategic mindset – strong hypothesis building, structuring and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent quantitative analytical skills – able to design / build insightful strategic analyses of our markets / businesses / clients / competitors
  • Excellent presentation skills – able to prepare high quality materials for business leaders
  • Strong expertise in Wholesale Financial Services – able to act as a credible SME
  • Strong project management – ability to structure and run strategic initiatives end-to-end
  • Strong Research skills – able to identify / translate industry trends into relevant insights
  • Excellent attitude and interpersonal skills – able to work collaboratively within a high-performing team and with other senior contacts across the Bank
    • Stakeholder management – able to build effective partnerships
    • High degree of flexibility – able to multi-task productivity to deliver results
    • Strong initiative and creativity – able to exercise independent judgement
    • Leadership – able to coach junior team members and support development
  • History of academic and professional excellence and achievement
  • Prior experience in a top-tier strategy consulting house, within Investment Banking / Research or as a strategy professional at a peer bank would be advantageous
