Job Description

Smiths Detection is entering an exciting new chapter as an independent company backed by private equity ownership. As we accelerate our transformation and value creation agenda, we're looking for a highly analytical Strategy Analyst to help drive some of our most important business decisions.

This is not a traditional reporting role.

We're looking for someone who loves working with data, enjoys building sophisticated models, and has a natural curiosity for understanding what sits behind the numbers. You'll partner with stakeholders across the business, challenge assumptions, uncover insights, and help shape strategic decisions that influence the future direction of the organisation.

Whether your background is in strategy consulting, banking, corporate finance, analytics, or another highly quantitative environment, this is an opportunity to apply your analytical expertise in a role with genuine visibility and impact.

What You'll Be Doing

Working closely with the Strategy team, you'll tackle a broad range of high-priority business questions across the organisation.

  • Build financial, commercial and operational models to evaluate strategic opportunities.
  • Analyse complex and often imperfect data sets to uncover meaningful business insights.
  • Challenge assumptions, identify risks, and test scenarios to support decision-making.
  • Transform analysis into compelling recommendations for senior stakeholders.
  • Partner with teams across Product Management, Portfolio, Finance, Commercial, Digital and Supply Chain functions.
  • Support strategic programmes and transformation initiatives that drive growth and value creation.
  • Present findings clearly and confidently to stakeholders, including senior leadership.

No two weeks will look exactly the same. One day you may be assessing a new strategic opportunity, the next you could be deep-diving into performance drivers, investment priorities, or supporting a major transformation initiative.

What We're Looking For

We're less interested in a specific career path and more interested in how you think.

You'll likely be someone who:

  • Loves solving complex analytical problems.
  • Is highly numerate and naturally data-driven.
  • Enjoys building models and turning data into actionable insights.
  • Knows how to ask the right questions before jumping into analysis.
  • Can communicate complex findings in a simple, compelling way.
  • Is comfortable working with ambiguity and incomplete datasets.
  • Builds strong relationships and isn't afraid to challenge or validate information.
  • Understands that great analysis is as much about stakeholder engagement as it is about technical capability.

Your Background Could Include

  • Strategy Consulting
  • Banking
  • Corporate Finance
  • Business Intelligence
  • Commercial Analytics
  • Transformation or Performance Improvement
  • Other highly quantitative environments

We're particularly interested in candidates who have developed strong modelling and analytical skills and are looking to broaden their strategic exposure.

Above all, we're looking for someone who can turn data into insight and insight into action.

Why Join Smiths Detection?

  • Play a key role in shaping strategy during a transformative period of growth.
  • Work directly with senior leaders and decision makers.
  • Gain exposure to high-profile strategic initiatives across a global organisation.
  • Join a team where your analysis will directly influence business outcomes.
  • Flexible approach to location and hybrid working for the right candidate.

If you're naturally curious, highly analytical, and excited by the idea of helping shape the future of a global technology business, we'd love to hear from you.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, economics or another quantitative discipline or equivalent
  • Masters in an analytics related discipline is preferred
  • Advanced Excel and financial modelling
  • Data analysis and quantitative techniques
  • SQL
  • Python
  • Scenario modelling and forecasting
