About the role
The Software Engineering Manager leads a multidisciplinary engineering team responsible for building and maintaining the digital platforms that support Sigma Group’s global events portfolio, including major iGaming events. This role blends technical expertise, people leadership, and strategic thinking to deliver scalable, secure, and high‑performing systems.
A key part of the role is driving the introduction of AI tooling across engineering workflows and supporting the development of AI‑powered products and services that enhance attendee engagement, exhibitor value, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership & Team Management
- Leads, mentors, and grows a team of software engineers across multiple disciplines (frontend, backend, mobile, platform).
- Fosters a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Conducts performance reviews, support career development, and guide engineers through complex technical challenges.
- Supports hiring, onboarding, and capability development across the engineering organisation.
Technical Strategy & Architecture Alignment
- Collaborates with architects and senior engineers to define technical direction, architectural standards, and long‑term platform evolution.
- Ensures engineering decisions support scalability, maintainability, and performance across event‑driven and iGaming‑specific systems.
- Oversees the design and implementation of APIs, integrations, backend services, and cloud‑native architectures.
AI Tooling & AI‑Driven Product Enablement
- Leads the introduction of AI tooling to improve engineering productivity, including:
- AI‑assisted coding and code review
- automated testing and QA
- intelligent monitoring and diagnostics
- Supports the development of AI‑powered product features such as:
- personalised event recommendations
- AI‑driven matchmaking between attendees and exhibitors
- automated content generation and summarisation
- predictive analytics for event performance
- Ensures AI initiatives follow responsible‑AI principles and comply with data‑privacy regulations.
Delivery Management & Execution
- Oversees the planning, execution, and delivery of engineering projects in collaboration with Product, Data, and UX teams.
- Ensures teams deliver high‑quality software on time and within scope.
- Implements and refines engineering processes, CI/CD pipelines, and development standards.
- Removes blockers, manage risks, and ensure smooth cross‑team collaboration.
Events & iGaming Platform Excellence
- Ensures platforms are robust, scalable, and event‑ready, capable of handling high‑traffic spikes during major events.
- Supports the development of features tailored to event and iGaming audiences, including real‑time data, engagement tools, and exhibitor dashboards.
- Collaborates with event operations to ensure technical readiness and rapid issue resolution during live events.
Security, Compliance & Quality
- Embeds secure‑by‑design principles across engineering practices.
- Ensures compliance with data‑privacy regulations and responsible‑gaming requirements.
- Oversees code quality, testing frameworks, and reliability standards.
Stakeholder Management & Communication
- Acts as a key technical partner to Product, Data, UX, and Commercial teams.
- Communicates engineering strategy, progress, and risks to leadership and stakeholders.
- Translates complex technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for non‑technical audiences.
Qualifications

- Strong technical background in software engineering, cloud platforms, and modern development practices
- Proven ability to lead and mentor engineering teams
- Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and AI‑powered development tools
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder‑management skills
- Strong problem‑solving and architectural thinking
- Ability to thrive in fast‑paced, event‑driven environments
- Understanding of iGaming platforms and digital engagement patterns is a plus
Preferred Experience
- Educated to degree level in a numerate or technical discipline, Masters preferred.
- 8-10+ years of technical experience in software engineering or related fields
- 3-5+ years of management experience leading engineering teams or technical delivery functions
- Proven track record of delivering complex, scalable software systems
- Experience introducing AI tooling or supporting AI‑enabled product development
- Background working with event platforms, mobile apps, or iGaming systems
- Experience collaborating with distributed or hybrid teams
