Kaluza is the Energy Intelligence Platform, turning energy complexity into seamless coordination. We help energy companies overcome today’s challenges while accelerating the shift to a clean, electrified future.

Our platform orchestrates millions of real-time decisions across homes, devices, markets and grids. By combining predictive algorithms with human-centred design, Kaluza makes clean energy dependable, affordable and adaptive to everyday life.

With teams across Europe, North America, Asia and Australia, and a joint venture with Mitsubishi Corporation in Japan, we power leading companies including OVO, AGL and ENGIE, as well as innovators like Volvo and Volkswagen.

At Kaluza we embrace a flexible, hybrid work model that balances autonomy with the power of in-person connection. Many of our teams find value in coming together regularly to collaborate, strengthen relationships, and accelerate progress. We’re focused on shaping thoughtful, team-driven approaches that support both business impact and individual well-being.

Where in the world of Kaluza will I be working?

You'll be joining the Kaluza Technology community. We’re a large team of both data-led and product focused Software and Production Engineers, pushing the boundaries of technology and working at an extraordinary scale. As a collective we strive for engineering greatness and by ensuring best practices across the board of the community.

You’ll play a pivotal role in building and evolving our internal developer platform, in order to empower our software teams. Your work will impact how our developers use cloud infrastructure, help teams to eliminate infrastructure toil, improve engineering productivity, reinforce security safeguards and constantly strive for greater cost efficiencies in operations.

Our tech stack is very fluid, but broadly you can find yourself working with:

AWS, Kubernetes, Cilium, Hubble, Kyverno, Traefik, Cloudflare, Sealed secrets, Terraform, Helm, GitHub Runners, KEDA, KNative, ArgoCD, Datadog, Golang, Python, Crossplane, Karpenter, Kafka

Responsibilities

  • Engineering a scalable, reliable and developer friendly platform to promote seamless software development, deployment and operations.
  • Collaborate closely with product teams to enhance platform reliability.
  • Automation & Tooling: Develop tools to abstract the complex aspects of the platform from developers to improve developer experience and operational efficiency.
  • Manage infrastructure as Code: Use tools like Terraform, and Helm to manage and automate provisioning of all cloud infrastructure and champion GitOps best practices.
  • Monitoring & Observability: Establish robust monitoring, logging foundations, and ensure platform reliability and performance using the standard application performance management tools.
  • Security: Incorporate security best practices and ensure compliance of the platform with industry standards.
  • Incident Management: Participate in out of hours on-call rota, help troubleshoot platform related incidents and implement post incident improvements to prevent recurrent issues.
  • Foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure clear communication of upcoming platform changes, coordinating upgrades and maintenance windows and holding service providers accountable to contractual SLAs.

About You

  • Experience building and running production systems, with a focus on reliability and scalability.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills — you enjoy solving complex problems as part of a team.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred, but GCP, Azure, or others also valuable).
  • Practical experience with Kubernetes in production (or a strong desire to gain it).
  • Solid foundational knowledge of distributed systems.
  • Familiarity with modern delivery practices — CI/CD, GitOps, and Infrastructure as Code.
  • An appreciation for the Site Reliability Engineering mindset and practices.
  • Curious and motivated to continuously learn, share knowledge, and improve systems.

Why might this role not suit you?

We are going through a period of significant evolution which is exciting and with it brings lots of opportunity and challenging work, which is not for everyone. To be successful in this role, you will be excellent at operating in ambiguous, changing environments, balancing multiple priorities simultaneously and get enjoyment from making the complex, simple.

Final Interview Loop (3 hours)

Three hours sounds like a long time, but we don’t expect all of these to be completed across one day, but we can support that if you so wish, the three sessions cover the following:

  • Behavioural - We use behavioural interviews to understand how you collaborate, solve problems, and build value for customers through real-world examples.
  • System Design - Our system design interview explores how you approach complex, high-scale problems — from handling real-time data to building reliable, secure, and scalable systems.
