About Motorway

Motorway is the UK’s fastest-growing used car marketplace - our online-only platform connects private car sellers with thousands of verified dealers nationwide, ensuring everyone gets the best deal. Founded in 2017, our award-winning, technology-led approach has redefined the experience of selling a car. Motorway is backed by some of the world’s leading technology investors, having raised £143 million in Series C funding.

This is a unique opportunity to join a fast-growing scale-up at a crucial phase of growth and help change an industry for the better.

About The Role

We’re looking for a Senior Writer to join our Creative Studio and shape how Motorway communicates across every single touchpoint. This is a unique dual-audience role: you will write for both car sellers (B2C) and our car dealer network (B2B), reporting directly to the Head of Creative.

You’ll operate across the full creative and editorial spectrum - crafting everything from brand campaigns, social and CRM flows to longer-form articles, in-product copy, sales and internal collateral.

You’ll be a talented writer who can translate complex topics (UK car ownership, EV adoption, and live auction dynamics) into clear, compelling narratives. Additionally, you will be the editor for AI-assisted content, ensuring our content scales without losing its edge.

What You'll Do
  • Execute across the funnel: Concept, write and edit copy for the entire end-to-end user journey - including brand campaigns, web/app, email, performance marketing, and B2B collateral.

  • Steward the Motorway voice: Maintain, evolve, and enforce Motorway’s brand voice guidelines so we sound distinct and consistent across all channels.

  • Coordinate copy across the end-to-end experience. Partner cross-functionally with Marketing, Product, CRM, and Operations to turn messaging into a coherent, seamless customer experience.

  • Lead on long-form and editorial content. Articles, thought leadership, and community (Reddit, Meta) content that builds Motorway's authority and maximises visibility in both human and AI search.

  • Edit and elevate AI-generated copy. Ensure AI-assisted work sounds like Motorway, and establish the prompts and guardrails that allow us to scale content using AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT) while maintaining strict quality control.

  • Translate complexity: Demystify the automotive industry. Turn dry regulatory changes, market trends, and transaction processes into intuitive, high-converting copy.

  • Optimise for Performance: Monitor content performance metrics (engagement, conversion, LLM indexing) and proactively iterate to drive business results.

What We're Looking For
  • A strong track record in copy/content writing, with a significant portion spent inside a fast-paced brand or agency.

  • A diverse portfolio featuring both short-form marketing copy and long-form editorial pieces (articles, guides or explainers).

  • The ability to strip away jargon and simplify complex topics without making them simplistic. You know the exact line between accessible and reductive.

  • You already integrate tools like Claude or ChatGPT into your daily workflow with intent. You understand how to prompt effectively and, crucially, how to edit AI-generated text to make it sound human and branded.

  • Knowledge of how content earns visibility in the age of traditional SEO and emerging generative AI search engines.

  • Experience managing multiple stakeholder opinions across different functions. You can defend a creative point of view, accept honest feedback, and edit work constructively.

  • A craft-first mentality, with the discipline to deliver at pace within a fast-moving environment.

Nice to Have
  • B2B or marketplace experience

  • Experience writing for automotive, mobility, or consumer tech brands

  • CMS experience

  • Previous experience working in or alongside an in-house creative studio
