Senior Technology Project Manager- DBS Portfolio

About the team

The DBS Portfolio team delivers technology initiatives that support Elsevier’s core business systems. Partnering closely with Technology, Architecture, Product, and Operations, the team ensures complex initiatives are delivered with discipline and alignment to long-term platform evolution.

As DBS continues to modernise its technology landscape, the team plays a key role in strengthening technically minded delivery leadership across platforms and enabling sustainable, estate-wide change.

About the role:

This role focuses on leading and coordinating technology‑driven initiatives that modernise platforms and improve long‑term system health. You will provide clear delivery leadership, help squads, architecture, infrastructure, and product teams work effectively together, and ensure progress is transparent and measurable.

This is an Individual Contributor role: This role requires technical fluency (e.g. Container platforms, Cloud-native architectures & patterns, CI/CD, platform and application lifecycle concepts) without requiring hands-on engineering or development responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead delivery & governance across multiple DBS technology initiatives, ensuring alignment to portfolio objectives including re-use, developer experience, modernisation outcomes, and long-term platform sustainability.
  • Orchestrate collaboration between Product, Engineering, Architecture, and Infrastructure, constructively challenging sequencing, risks, and technical approach where required.
  • Plan and track milestones, risks, and progress using appropriate delivery approaches
  • Lead selected large and complex technology initiatives end-to-end, ensuring integration into a coherent portfolio-level view and effective transition to ongoing lifecycle ownership.
  • Act as a trusted delivery partner to senior stakeholders, driving the shift from point-in-time project delivery toward disciplined, transparent platform and application lifecycle management.
  • Support a shift toward sustainable platform and application lifecycle management
  • Define, track, and communicate measurable modernisation benefits, maintaining rigorous oversight of risks, issues, and cross-team dependencies.

Requirements:

  • Experience delivering complex, technology‑focused initiatives in global Matrixed organisation
  • Strong Technical fluency, comfortable discussing topics such as cloud platforms, CI/CD pipelines, and modern delivery pipelines
  • Experience working at both project and programme level balancing strategic oversight with hands on delivery
  • Knowledge of delivery approaches such as Agile, Scrum, or hybrid methods, and the judgement to apply them pragmatically
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, Including with Senior Leadership
