Position Summary:

Join our team to enhance and develop Observability features in our products. As a Cloud Software Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of innovation, collaborating on cutting-edge software components for Platform.sh, Blackfire.io, and Upsun. You will report to the Director of Engineering and help shape the future of our observability solutions.

What you can expect:

• Lead the development and enhancement of Observability features for products like Platform.sh, Blackfire.io, and Upsun.
• Design, implement, and support software components to collect and process telemetry data using languages such as PHP, Golang, Python, Ruby, and Node.JS.
• Participate in the analysis, design, implementation, and release of observability capabilities within our products, including system and application metrics, log management, and performance scaling.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to integrate system and language extensions for real-time data collection, ensuring seamless operation and compatibility across diverse environments.
• Drive innovation through collaboration with domain experts to provide unique features and unprecedented experiences for our users.
• Contribute to the architecture and scalability of observability solutions, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems and future advancements.
• Lead troubleshooting efforts and provide technical expertise to resolve complex system issues, ensuring high availability and reliability of observability features.
• Take ownership of software components related to monitoring and performance, with a specific focus on the observability capabilities of our products.
• Mentor junior team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth within the Observability Team.
• Stay ahead of industry trends and best practices in observability, continuously refining and evolving our systems to meet evolving needs and challenges.

What you bring:

• 3-5 years of experience with PHP and Symfony, using their various components and features to produce maintainable code autonomously.
• Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) involving multiple instances or managed services.
• Strong understanding of cloud architecture and services.
• Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
• Pragmatic problem-solving. You approach challenges pragmatically, employing effective solutions to overcome complex problems efficiently.
• An innovative mindset that drives you to propose creative and forward-thinking solutions and designs, contributing to continuous improvement efforts.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage in discussions, accept feedback, and share knowledge with diverse audiences.
• A collaborative nature; you actively share your work and collaborate with team members to achieve collective goals.
• A strong focus on understanding and meeting the needs and expectations of our clients, enhancing their satisfaction and overall experience.

Bonus points for:

• Experience in building resilient architectures with cloud hosting providers across multiple regions.
• Familiarity with Observability Engineering. While not required, familiarity with industry-standard Observability tools is a bonus. You demonstrate the ability to leverage existing solutions to enhance product features effectively.

Highly Desirable:

• PHP Internals Expertise:
• Experience with php-src.
• Proficiency in PHP core development.
• Hands-on experience working on the Blackfire.io PHP extension.
