Senior Strategy & Operations Manager, New Verticals (L5)
The Team
The Growth, Cost & Quality team is part of the New Verticals Strategy & Operations team and reports into the Director of Growth, Strategy & Operations (New Verticals). We are responsible for shaping the strategy to drive growth and win in the highly competitive on-demand grocery and retail market.
Our work is project-based and growth-focused. Starting from key strategic questions, we use data and analysis to drive the right decisions before supporting execution with cross-functional teams. In addition, the team owns performance management for New Verticals, including target-setting, goals and OKRs, and regular performance reporting through weekly and monthly business reviews.
As such, the team offers a strong balance between high-impact strategic problem solving and seeing the real-world impact of your work. The culture within the New Verticals team is informal, fast-paced, and entrepreneurial. Given the growth of the business and exposure to senior stakeholders, progression in the team can be fast.
The Role
Reporting to the Director of Growth Strategy & Operations, New Verticals, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the trajectory of our on-demand grocery and retail business. You will take end-to-end ownership of complex strategic initiatives, moving from high-level problem definition to operational delivery.
Your focus will include:
Driving Strategic Direction: Leading the definition and execution of strategies to accelerate growth across the New Verticals portfolio.
End-to-End Project Leadership: Partnering with senior business leads to spearhead strategic projects. You will be responsible for the entire lifecycle, from framing the problem to ensuring successful delivery and impact.
Strategic Modelling & Insights: Overseeing complex quantitative analysis and financial modelling. You won’t just run the numbers; you will translate them into high-stakes recommendations for the leadership team.
Cross-Functional Orchestration: Leading cross-functional ‘pods’ (Product, Commercial, Marketing, Engineering) to operationalise new initiatives and ensure execution excellence in a fast-paced environment.
Performance Ownership: Leading the New Verticals performance management framework, from owning annual planning and OKR-setting to tracking strategic initiatives. You will move beyond simple tracking to proactively identify cost-saving or revenue-driving opportunities within the P&L, leading weekly and monthly business reviews to provide senior stakeholders with the strategic "narrative" behind the numbers.
Typical questions you will lead on answering include:
How can we structurally grow New Verticals by shifting our core levers—MAUs, conversion, frequency, or basket size—to outpace the market?
What is the opportunity size and ROI for major new product features, initiatives, or category expansions?
How are we performing against our annual plan, and where are the systemic risks or opportunities that require us to pivot our strategy?
How do we optimise the cross-functional ‘pod’ model to accelerate the delivery of our highest-impact growth initiatives?
Do we have the right forums and reporting mechanisms in place to effectively track impact and surface critical risks to senior leadership before they become issues?
Qualities We’re Looking For:
Strategic Leader: You thrive in ambiguity and are comfortable forming clear, well-reasoned recommendations when the path forward isn't obvious. You are a natural influencer who builds trusted relationships at all levels.
Analytical & Commercial: You have a deep understanding of business performance drivers and P&L management. You enjoy "getting into the weeds" of data but can effortlessly zoom out to the "big picture" for executive briefings.
Structured & Decisive: You can manage multiple high-priority workstreams simultaneously, bringing order to complex problems and communicating recommendations with clarity and pace.
Impact-Oriented: You are focused on results. You don’t just deliver a deck with recommendations; you ensure the operational changes are made and the impact is measured.
Requirements
Strong experience (typically 4-6+ years) in management consulting, corporate strategy, finance, or a high-growth operations role. Experience in e-commerce, grocery, retail or a hyper-growth tech environment is a plus.
Proven Leadership: A track record of leading complex projects and influencing senior stakeholders in a matrixed organisation.
Masterful Problem Solving: Ability to identify root causes, assess multi-layered risks, and implement scalable solutions.
Advanced Analytical Skills: Expert-level modelling skills and the ability to turn disparate data sets into actionable strategic roadmaps.
Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to "distil" complexity for senior executives.
Location: London-based with a minimum of three days per week in the office.
