The position 

A Product Owner (PO) is a Subject Matter Expert and acts as such within an organization. They are responsible for input into roadmaps, new ideas, exploring new market segments and new offerings within their subject area and are expected to be creative.

Reporting into the Product Manager for Order Management, scoping, prioritization, capacity allocation within their area are all part of the PO role, and ensuring compliance with the overall product strategy through collaboration with other roles is essential. 

POs deliver to clients and own the client interaction needed to ensure effective client outcomes. Estimation, refinement and maintaining client commitments are all part of the PO role along with ensuring delivery quality and commitment profitability. POs work with features from end-to-end and have a say in how and when they are delivered. 

The Product Owner is expected to have the following responsibilities and tasks 

Team facing: 

  • Define strategy and roadmap within their area of subject matter expertise and communicate product goal and vision to teams 
  • Creating features, user story mapping, requirements validation, defining acceptance criteria 
  • Ensuring backlog integrity 
  • Prioritization of the feature in the backlog 
  • Supporting the Scrum Teams during refinement and development 
  • Feature acceptance 
  • Documentation approval 
  • Maximize outcomes for clients 
     

Across teams and Product Areas: 

  • Contribute to strategy and roadmap with Subject Matter Expertise 
  • Facilitate system demos and involve relevant stakeholders – both internally and externally 
  • Cross Product Area backlog management: alignment, prioritization 
  • Supporting cross Product Area collaboration 
     

External facing: 

  • Define and refine scope with client 
  • Estimating and coordinating Client Commitments / Prioritization of requests 
  • Understanding of the most valuable outcomes to clients 
  • Be the primary point of contact with the client for a subject or client commitment 
  • Improving client partnerships 
  • Understand the target market space and similar offerings 
  • Expert understanding of user needs through interaction with client end users 
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather market trends 
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders and market events to gather trends 
  • Ensure the integration of features in pre-sales environments 
  • Ensure the integration of features in marketing and web demo portal 
  • Conduct webinars, round tables, client demos, user conferences 
  • Produce outcome based material (one pagers, Q&As, etc) 

Your qualifications 

As an ideal candidate, you have: 

  • Experience working on financial systems, ideally in the trading/execution space 
  • Knowledge of financial instruments, ideally including OTC derivatives 
  • The ability to take “on the fly” business decisions at a user story level 
  • Ability and experience with engaging proactively with clients and internal stakeholders to solicit input for user stories 
  • Critical thinking abilities 
  • Great facilitation and listening skills 
  • Ability to organize priorities and highlight conflicting priorities
  • A positive spirit but with authority to “control” an uncontrolled inflow of backlog items 
  • The ability to see the big picture and can convey it to team members 
  • High-level understanding of enterprise software development and the ability to work with detail when required 
  • An appreciation of user experience design principles 
  • The goal to make a positive impact for day-to-day users of SimCorp Dimension
