The way that academic research is being communicated to audiences around the globe is changing rapidly. Increasingly, validated research data can be consumed at scale through AI tools and machine intelligence, creating a moment of transition in research communication, and an inspiring opportunity to shape how millions discover, trust, and apply research, accelerating the translation of insight into realworld impact faster than before.

Springer Nature is seeking a Senior Product Manager to help drive the business through this transition. This role will focus on the way that the world-leading research and academic content published by Springer Nature makes its way to the wider world, and how it is ultimately used by students, researchers, healthcare professionals and the wider public to understand the leading edge of research. Crucially, it will also focus on protecting that content, as well as the Springer Nature platforms it is published on, from misuse.

This is an opportunity to be at the forefront of Springer Nature’s strategy and action to ensure that content is:

  • Not used in ways which undermine research and research publishing

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Establishing  and evolving partnerships with trusted partners in the research communication system (e.g. Google Scholar)

  • Evolving and delivering Springer Nature’s strategy around how content is used in new AI-powered tools (e.g. Chat GPT, Claude)

  • Evolving and delivering the strategy for content protection, working with colleagues across the organisation (e.g. anti-piracy, Legal)

  • Prioritisation of roadmaps for these initiatives, and working closely with a cross-disciplinary team of engineers, designers, UX researchers and data analysts towards execution

Ultimately you will be driving metrics associated with the core business models of Springer Nature, demonstrating clear value to Subscription, Transformative Agreement and Open Access publishing revenue lines.

In this role you will work closely with:

  • Head of Product, on the overall strategy for the discovery of research, researchers and research insights from Springer Nature’s Researcher Platform

  • Product Managers leading teams focussed on on-platform content discovery, reading and task-based researcher workflows (like literature review)

  • Product Managers and business leaders in the evolution of our business models and the way we communicate value to our customers

  • Product Managers responsible for Springer Nature’s foundational technology and data products, which drive our user-facing products and platforms

  • Product Managers responsible for Springer Nature’s Solutions products, where you will identify and execute on opportunities to drive revenue in partnership with them

  • User Experience Researchers and Product Data Analysts, providing insights to guide delivery roadmaps

  • Cross-functional delivery teams in the creation and execution of deliverable roadmaps

Experience & Track Record

  • Proven Product Leader with a strong history of turning business objectives and user insights into clear, actionable product roadmaps

  • Demonstrable success managing customerfocused digital products

  • Experience delivering product outcomes across commercial, behavioural, qualitative and quantitative measures

  • Skilled in agile delivery environments, with the ability to influence engineering teams and support the development of technical capability

  • Experienced in managing products across the full lifecycle, from inception through optimisation to retirement

Skills & Competencies

  • Deeply usercentred, with a strong ability to understand customer needs and translate them into valuable product outcomes.

  • Highly collaborative, with a strong track record of working effectively with crossfunctional delivery teams and a wide range of stakeholders

  • Excellent communication skills, able to tailor messaging for senior leaders, delivery teams and external partners

  • Datadriven and confident in using quantitative and qualitative evidence to inform decisions and articulate rationale

  • Effective at navigating ambiguity and complexity, maintaining clarity of direction and supporting team alignment

  • Strong stakeholder management, negotiation and facilitation skills to enable timely and effective decisionmaking

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working with content to drive offsite visibility (e.g., SEO, GEO strategies)
