We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer - AI Product development to join our Cortellis CMC team in Barcelona, where you’ll work on high-impact backend services that power global pharmaceutical innovation. In this role, you’ll take strong ownership of architecture and delivery while collaborating closely with distributed engineering teams. Our CMC platform provides mission-critical regulatory intelligence that helps life-science companies bring new treatments to market faster and with less risk. About You – experience, education, skills, and accomplishments

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering or Related field.

  • Experience Building and delivering production-grade software, with experience in deploying AI-powered product capabilities

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience working on backend systems using TypeScript, Node.js (Nest.js)

  • 5+ years designing and maintaining scalable backend services and RESTful APIs.

  • 5+ years working with microservices and distributed architecture.

  • Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL and search technologies like Elasticsearch.

  • Hands-on experience working in cloud environments (AWS preferred).

It would be great if you also have . . .  

  • Experience working with Java in backend environments

  • Experience developing applications with Django

What will you be doing in this role?

  • Build and execute Generative and agent-based AI capabilities, including model integration, feature development, and iterative enhancements.

  • Analyze and improve data and retrieval systems that support AI features, with a focus on performance, reliability, and scalability.

  • Design and build integrations of AI capabilities into production services and APIs, ensuring alignment with security and quality standards.

  • Design, develop, and maintain Java backend services and APIs in microservices architecture.

  • Build scalable, secure, and high-performance solutions using TypeScript and NodeJs (Nest.JS)

  • Deploy and operate cloud-native applications on AWS, using Docker and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Write clean, well-tested, and well-documented code, following backend best practices.

  • Troubleshoot, optimize, and maintain existing systems to ensure reliability and performance.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with frontend, QA, DevOps, and product teams.

About the Team

You’ll join a team of 6 engineers working across backend, frontend, and quality assurance. We follow an Agile delivery model and collaborate closely with key business and product stakeholders to enhance and evolve the CMC platform, which helps pharmaceutical companies navigate global Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls (CMC) regulations.

Our work provides structured, up-to-date regulatory intelligence that reduces risk, accelerates compliance, and supports the delivery of new treatments to patients. As our next backend engineer, you’ll play a central role in improving the scalability, reliability, and performance of this mission-critical system.

Hours of Work

This is a permanent full-time position at 40 hours a week (35 hours during July and August). The working schedule is flexible, mostly centered on CET time zone with occasional need to accommodate late or early meetings with US or East Asia time zones.

The position is hybrid going to the office in Barcelona 2-3 times per week.
