Own and evolve the design system for a new retail trading platform, including token architecture, Figma Variables, component libraries, Code Connect mappings, documentation, accessibility, and governance. Partner closely with product managers, designers, and engineers to resolve design-to-code gaps and inform product decisions. Use AI tooling to improve workflows and work independently in an early-stage design organization.
Clear Street Active is a new retail trading platform. We're building the design team from scratch, and this is a critical early hire to help set the foundation as we build fast. The role is rooted in design systems but won't stay there. You'll be involved in product decisions alongside PMs and engineers from day one.
What you'll do
- Own the design system: token architecture, Figma Variables, component library, Code Connect mappings, documentation
- Be the connection between design and engineering. When things drift, you catch it and work with engineering to fix it before it becomes a problem.
- Set accessibility and quality standards and hold to them
- Work with PMs and product designers when a systems decision has product implications
- Use AI tooling as part of how you work. Claude Code, Cursor, whatever closes gaps and moves things faster.
What we're looking for
- Has built or substantially rebuilt a design system, not just contributed to one. Those are different jobs.
- Fluent in Figma Variables, design tokens, and the Figma-to-code bridge, whether that's Code Connect, Token Studio, or something equivalent
- Has opinions about token naming, semantic structure, and governance, and can explain them clearly to an engineer or a PM
- Uses AI tooling to actually close gaps, not just as an experiment
- Some familiarity with investing or trading, from work or personal use
- Comfortable in the product layer. Understands the users at the end of the decisions being made.
- Can work without much oversight

- Experience with Token Studio or Style Dictionary
- Fintech or financial services background
- Exposure to React component architecture
- Deep trading domain expertise
