We’re looking for a talented Senior Privacy Counsel Europe with a passion for critical thinking and problem solving to join our Global Privacy team. Reporting to the Chief Data Privacy Officer, you will create and drive key data protection initiatives across Convatec’s global business. In doing so, you’ll join a talented and supportive Privacy Team and work closely with key stakeholders across the business, promoting a strong culture of handling and managing personal data sensitively and effectively.

With an increasing focus on adopting and developing AI, this role is also uniquely positioned to help build and shape Convatec’s Responsible AI Programme.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • You will act as the primary point of contact for our European businesses and responsible for delivering the Privacy Team’s global strategy in Europe, including monitoring legal and regulatory developments and advising on necessary adaptations and improvements to Convatec’s Privacy Programme.
  • You will support in maturing Convatec’s Privacy Programme to develop, refine and simplify global, scalable, policies, processes and systems to protect the patient, Health Care Professional and employee data we process whilst enabling the business to fulfil its mission of creating pioneering heathcare.
  • Coaching and mentoring our EMEA Data & Privacy Compliance Manager, reviewing and assigning work to support regional and global iniatives.
  • Work closely with our Digital Solutions Team and colleagues across Convatec to conduct privacy impact assessments and to ensure privacy by design and default when developing and rolling out new products and services, with an increasing focus on ditigal products and AI.
  • Work with the wider Legal team to develop and strengthen precedents, playbooks and processes to streamline and supercharge the team.
  • Work collaboratively with key stakeholders, including the Digital Solutions, Marketing, Compliance, Legal, HR and Information Security teams, advising on new projects, setting clear accountabilities and policies for data protection
  • Develop and deliver engaging and helpful training and awareness programmes.
  • Working with the Chief Data Privacy Counsel, develop and mature Convatec’s Responsible AI programme, including assessments of the applicability of new and emerging AI laws and regulations, creating processes, policies, training and awareness materials and conducting risk assessments.
  • Monitor privacy and AI regulation and advise on required/desired adaptations and improvements to Convatec’s Privacy and Responsible AI Programmes.

YOUR PROFILE

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree
  • Qualified to practise law in the UK or equivalent jurisdiction or CIPP/E or equivalent data protection qualification and industry experience
  • 4-6 years’ experience in-house or at a top law firm (with secondment experience), with a solid focus in data protection matters
  • Demonstrable experience of leading on a range of privacy projects and issues
  • Strong commercial acumen; ability to take a pragmatic approach to legal risk and advise the business accordingly
  • Skilled at collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders across all levels of the business
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong team player, hands-on, self starter and can-do approach
  • Interest in technology and AI
