IONATE is a deep technology scale-up building the technology backbone for smart electricity grids. Our team is looking for a Senior Power Electronics Engineer to support our work on game-changing green technology and grow within our world-class team.

This role will suit someone who thrives in a fast-moving, ever-changing environment, where no two days are the same.

Reporting to the Power Electronics Team Lead and requiring extensive knowledge and experience in electronics development and design, you will play a key role in developing, designing, implementing and testing electronics circuits and systems, taking concepts and prototypes through to commercial products.

With a focus on grid-connected inverter design, you will be actively contributing to design & analyses, simulations, technical discussions, verification and validation processes. You will need an innovative approach to engineering with well-grounded reasoning and experience. Importantly you will contribute to live ongoing projects and test activities and work with the team to continue developing our HIT technology.

Requirements

What you will do:

Power Electronics Design & Development

  • Develop power electronics hardware and circuitry for power converters and controllers in grid connected applications
  • Design, prototype, and validate power conversion systems (DC-DC/AC-DC) and mixed-signal circuits including ADCs and PWM controllers
  • Be involved hands-on with hardware design and validation respecting safety, quality, and international standards
  • Develop PCB layouts with signal integrity focus and interfaced power stages with transformers, digital controllers, passive filters, and electromechanical systems.

Thermal Management & Compliance

  • Optimise thermal management solutions for high-power applications and implement EMI/EMC compliance strategies

Testing, Debugging & Validation

  • Conduct root-cause analysis for system-level debugging across prototype and production phases
  • Actively participate in technical development and testing across a multi-disciplinary team including power electronics designers, mechanical engineers, control & software engineers

Project Management & Collaboration

  • Work to clear timelines and collaborate with a cross-functional team to deliver projects on time, with ambitious product targets

Documentation & Standards

  • Create and maintain documentation such as requirements and specification documents, testing reports and product manuals

What you will need:

Technical Expertise in Power Electronics

  • Degree in Electrical and Electronics engineering or equivalent
  • Extensive experience in power electronics design, ideally in high power applications
  • Good understanding of electronic and electrical components and their principles, integrated circuits, signal processing and passive/active filter designs
  • An understanding of best practices related to thermomechanical designs

Design, Modelling & Simulation

  • Experience in electronics circuit modelling and simulation
  • Experience using tools such as SPICE, Altium, MATLAB, Confluence, JIRA
  • Ability to design, create and test PCBs

Testing & Validation

  • Experience conducting laboratory and site-based testing using test equipment such as oscilloscopes, power analysers, grid emulators etc

Manufacturing & Production

  • Experience designing systems fit for large scale manufacturing and production

Collaboration & Communication

  • Communication skills enabling you to work with various teams across the globe
  • Willingness to travel nationally and internationally when required for testing/ commissioning
  • A drive to learn new things!

It would be useful to have:

  • Experience in power electronics converters (AC/DC, DC/AC, DC/DC)
  • Design experience for low noise, mixed signal systems
  • Experience designing systems to meet EMC/EMI standards
  • Experience designing and testing commercially ready systems for UL/TUV certification
  • Soldering and PCB rework

Benefits
