About the opportunity:

Based at our idyllic office location on the outskirts of Peterborough, working alongside the HR administration team, you will be responsible for delivering a fully managed payroll service to a range of clients across a variety of sectors.

This is a highly client-facing position where you will act as a trusted payroll expert, building strong, long-term relationships with clients, supporting more complex payrolls, and helping to shape best practice across the team.

In addition, you will play an important role in coaching and supporting newer members of the payroll team, sharing your knowledge and contributing to continuous improvement across payroll processes and service delivery.

In particular, you will:

  • Managing and delivering end-to-end payroll services for a diverse portfolio of clients, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and on-time delivery.
  • Acting as a primary point of contact for key client relationships, handling escalated queries and providing expert payroll guidance.
  • Supporting the onboarding and implementation of new client payrolls, including data checking, setup, and parallel runs.
  • Coordinating pension administration, auto-enrolment duties, and liaising confidently with pension providers.
  • Supporting payroll audits, statutory reporting, and legislative compliance.
  • Coaching, mentoring, and training junior payroll colleagues, providing day-to-day guidance and sharing best practice.
  • Contributing to process improvement initiatives, helping to maximise efficiency through payroll and HR technology.
  • Working collaboratively with the HR Administration team to ensure a seamless client experience.

Who we are looking for:

  • You’ll be an experienced payroll professional who enjoys combining technical expertise with excellent client service and team collaboration.
  • We’re looking for someone who has:
  • Significant experience in payroll processing, ideally within a bureau or outsourced environment.
  • A strong working knowledge of current UK payroll legislation and statutory requirements.
  • Experience handling client-facing payroll relationships and complex queries.
  • The confidence to support, guide, and train less experienced team members.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong personal organisation skills.
  • Proven customer service skills and professional communication style.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Excel and Microsoft Office products.
  • A positive, proactive, “can-do” attitude.
  • Previous experience using Sage 50 payroll or similar payroll software.

Why you will love working here:

  • An excellent salary and benefits package including life assurance, 25 days annual leave and even your birthday off!
  • A very modern office environment on the outskirts of Peterborough.
  • Excellent development/promotional opportunities with an expanding business where you can really make an impact.
  • A tailored development plan and regular coaching sessions to take you to the next level, if you wish.
  • If you have the right attributes, skillset and feel you will be able to add value, then what are you waiting for…hit that apply button to find out more!
