Who are we?

Howden is a global insurance group with employee ownership at its heart. Together, we have pushed the boundaries of insurance. We are united by a shared passion and no-limits mindset, and our strength lies in our ability to collaborate as a powerful international team comprised of 24,000 employees spanning over 56 countries.

People join Howden for many different reasons, but they stay for the same one: our culture. It’s what sets us apart, and the reason our employees have been turning down headhunters for years. Whatever your priorities – work / life balance, career progression, sustainability, volunteering – you’ll find like-minded people driving change at Howden.

The Role

We’re looking for an experienced, creative and commercially minded Senior Marketing Manager to help drive the continued growth of two of Howden’s most established and exciting practices: Financial Institutions and Directors & Officers (D&O). D&O has a special place in Howden’s story too - the very first insurance policy bound by our founder, David Howden, was a D&O policy.

This is a brilliant opportunity to work at the heart of two complementary specialty businesses, shaping strategic marketing and communications programmes that elevate market profile, deepen client relationships and help unlock growth.

You’ll be a trusted partner to senior stakeholders - getting under the skin of their priorities, spotting opportunities and turning business ambition into creative, effective marketing and communications activity.

You’ll also lead and develop a team of two marketing professionals, giving them the guidance, energy and support they need to do great work and keep growing.

You’ll join a marketing team where culture really matters. We’d describe ourselves as friendly, supportive and energetic - a team with a strong work ethic, plenty of personality and a genuine focus on balance, wellbeing and enjoying what we do.

We take development seriously, with regular training, coaching and 1-1s to help people build confidence and progress. We also make time to connect as a team, with socials throughout the year - from our annual sports day to monthly book club.

We’re predominantly office-based (at least three days a week) to support collaboration, connection and momentum - balanced with regular flexibility to work from home.

What you'll be doing

  • Shape and deliver the marketing strategy for the Financial Institutions and D&O practices in close partnership with business leadership.

  • Partner with senior stakeholders as a strategic marketing adviser, translating commercial priorities into high-impact activity.

  • Create compelling value propositions, thought leadership and market-facing communications that bring the practices’ expertise to life.

  • Lead integrated, multi-channel campaigns across digital, social media, email, events, PR and content marketing.

  • Craft engaging communications for internal and external audiences, with clear, consistent messaging and a strong brand voice.

  • Work with subject matter experts to turn insight and expertise into content that strengthens market positioning and client engagement.

  • Lead, coach and develop a team of two, creating the clarity, confidence and momentum they need to perform at their best.

  • Build strong connections across the wider Specialty marketing team and international marketing network to spark ideas, share best practice and create opportunities for collaboration.

  • Keep activity moving at pace by managing budgets, project plans and timelines efficiently and to a high standard.

  • Use performance insight to understand what’s working, spot opportunities and keep improving marketing effectiveness.

Who we're looking for

  • A confident communicator with strong writing, presentation and relationship-building skills.

  • Highly organised, with sharp project management skills and excellent attention to detail.

  • Experienced in managing senior stakeholders, building credibility and influencing with confidence.

  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience leading and developing team members.

  • Collaborative, adaptable and commercially minded.

  • Confident operating across a broad marketing mix, including content, digital, events, social media and PR.

  • Significant marketing experience in a similar B2B professional services, financial services or insurance environment.

  • Experience working within, or marketing to, financial institutions would be highly advantageous. Including any of the following: Asset Management, Private Equity, Banks & Wealth, Financial Advisory, Insurance Companies, Fintech and Digital Assets.

  • Experience delivering global or international campaigns is desirable.

What do we offer in return?

A career that you define. At Howden, we value diversity – there is no one Howden type. Instead, we’re looking for individuals who share the same values as us:

  • Our successes have all come from someone brave enough to try something new

  • We support each other in the small everyday moments and the bigger challenges

  • We are determined to make a positive difference at work and beyond

Reasonable adjustments

We're committed to providing reasonable accommodations at Howden to ensure that our positions align well with your needs.  Besides the usual adjustments such as software, IT, and office setups, we can also accommodate other changes such as flexible hours* or hybrid working*.

If you're excited by this role but have some doubts about whether it’s the right fit for you, send us your application – if your profile fits the role’s criteria, we will be in touch to assist in helping to get you set up with any reasonable adjustments you may require.

*Not all positions can accommodate changes to working hours or locations. Reach out to your Recruitment Partner if you want to know more.
