What You’ll Be Doing

Within Corporate & Institutional Banking, we're strengthening our Markets Operations control environment to support sustainable growth, operational resilience and regulatory confidence.

As Senior Manager, Markets Operations Control, you'll play a critical role in assessing, strengthening and continuously improving the control environment across a complex and dynamic Markets Operations function. This is a high-profile role with significant senior visibility, offering the opportunity to influence control strategy, shape remediation priorities and drive sustainable improvements across the post-trade landscape.

You'll be responsible for maintaining a holistic view of the Markets Operations control environment, leveraging insights from audits, reviews, risk events, control testing and regulatory assessments to identify emerging risks, prioritise enhancements and drive remediation activity.

Working closely with Operations leadership, Control Owners, the Controls Office, Risk and Audit teams, you'll help ensure the control environment remains effective, resilient and aligned to the Group's risk appetite and regulatory obligations.

In this role, you'll:

  • Control Environment Oversight: Maintain an end-to-end view of the Markets Operations control environment, assessing control effectiveness across key operational processes and identifying emerging risks, vulnerabilities and areas for improvement.

  • Thematic Analysis & Risk Insight: Analyse findings from internal audits, CCOR reviews, risk events, regulatory assessments, control testing and management information to identify systemic themes and opportunities to strengthen the control framework.

  • Issue Management & Remediation: Lead the identification, prioritisation and remediation of control deficiencies, ensuring actions are appropriately scoped, tracked and delivered to a high standard.

  • Control Strategy & Enhancement: Partner with Operations leaders, Control Owners and the Controls Office to develop and implement control improvement strategies that enhance resilience, improve control effectiveness and support regulatory compliance.

  • Governance, MI & Executive Reporting: Develop meaningful management information and control insights that provide clear visibility of control health, emerging risks, issue trends and remediation progress to senior governance forums.

  • Change & Control-by-Design: Support transformation, platform and process change initiatives by embedding control-by-design principles, ensuring risk and control considerations are integrated into future-state operating models.

  • Stakeholder Management & Challenge: Act as a trusted advisor to Operations leadership, providing constructive challenge, influencing prioritisation decisions and driving accountability for control improvements across Markets Operations.

What We're Looking For

  • Deep experience in Markets Operations (middle/back office), typically gained over 8+ years, with strong understanding of the post-trade lifecycle

  • Proven experience overseeing trade reconciliation processes across front to back systems with a track record of identifying, investigating and driving timely resolution of breaks to minimise operational and financial risk

  • Strong experience operating within a first-line risk and control environment, with responsibility for assessing control effectiveness and driving remediation activity.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyse complex control environments, identify systemic weaknesses and translate insights into meaningful improvement actions.

  • Experience managing audit findings, risk events, thematic reviews and regulatory issues through to successful closure.

  • Strong understanding of risk and control frameworks, including risks, controls, issues, governance, assurance and regulatory expectations.

  • Knowledge of key Markets regulatory reporting and post-trade processes, including areas such as EMIR, MiFIR, SFTR and operational control frameworks.

  • Ability to interpret and challenge management information, identifying trends, emerging risks and opportunities to strengthen control effectiveness.

  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders, provide effective challenge and build alignment across multiple teams.

  • A continuous improvement mindset, with a focus on simplification, automation and strengthening control outcomes.
