This is an exciting opportunity to join Nationwide’s Strategy team and play a central role in the development and delivery of Nationwide Growth. Nationwide Growth supports ambitious privately-owned UK businesses by providing minority equity investments to support their growth and long-term value creation.

 

The role combines investment opportunity assessment, delivery, and active portfolio management. You will build relationships with prospective portfolio companies and their advisers, assess strategic and financial attractiveness, lead on transaction proposals from origination through to governance and execution, and support portfolio companies to help create sustainable long-term value.

 

Working closely with colleagues across Strategy, Legal, Risk, Finance, and other specialist teams (including Business Banking), you will help establish a disciplined, scalable, and well-governed investment process, and manage the resulting investment portfolio. The role balances commercial judgement and pace, with robust analysis, effective stakeholder management, and Nationwide’s commitment to delivering value for its members.

The working hours (per week) for this role can be between 28 and 35 hours.


This is a 12-month Fixed Term Contract opportunity.

For this job you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part time you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at either our Swindon, London or Glasgow office. Responsibilities

What you’ll be doing

 

As an Investment Manager for Nationwide Growth, you’ll be responsible for screening potential opportunities against Nationwide Growth’s investment criteria, risk appetite, and strategic objectives. You’ll be leading and coordinating the assessment of investment opportunities, including undertaking market, commercial, financial, strategic, valuation, management, and risk analysis.

 

You will plan and coordinate due diligence across commercial, financial, legal, tax, technology, operational, regulatory, economic crime and other relevant workstreams, drawing on internal specialists and external advisers as needed. Using the information gathered, you will build clear, evidence-based investment cases and financial models, including returns analysis, scenario assessment, sensitivity analysis, and consideration of downside risks. 

 

You will prepare high-quality papers and recommendations for the investment committee and senior decision-makers, presenting complex opportunities clearly and concisely, and support with the negotiation and execution of investments, including transaction structure, investment terms, governance rights, and completion requirements. 

 

Through time, you will build trusted relationships with portfolio company leadership teams, acting as a constructive, commercially minded partner. You will monitor the performance, risk profile, and value creation progress of portfolio investments, using proportionate management information and agreed performance indicators, and you will contribute to portfolio valuation, governance, and reporting to senior stakeholders.

 

In this role you will represent Nationwide Growth externally and help to build its reputation as a credible, patient and purpose-led investment partner.


 

About you

 

We’re looking for an experienced investment professional who combines strong commercial judgement and analytical rigour with the ability to build relationships and deliver.

 

As a minimum, you should be:

 

  • Able to demonstrate experience of assessing and executing equity investments, ideally in growth equity, private equity, venture capital, corporate development, or strategic investments.

  • Commercially curious, with the ability to understand business models, markets, competitive positioning, growth strategies, and the drivers of sustainable value creation.

  • Highly numerate and financially capable, with strong skills in financial analysis, investment appraisal, valuation, modelling, and returns assessment.

  • Experienced in structuring and coordinating due diligence and translating findings into clear investment conclusions and recommendations.

  • A confident communicator who can build credibility with founders, management teams, advisers, colleagues, and senior decision-makers.

  • Comfortable taking ownership of complex workstreams, managing multiple priorities, and maintaining momentum from initial engagement through to completion and portfolio management.

  • Skilled at producing concise, decision-useful investment papers, presentations, and management information.

  • Proactive, collaborative, organised and resilient, with sound judgement and close attention to detail.

  • Able to balance commercial objectives, member value, risk management, and governance requirements.

  • Committed to responsible investment, long-term partnership and supporting the sustainable growth of UK businesses.
