The Senior ESG Data Operations Analyst is responsible for ensuring ESG investment data is accurate, timely, controlled and available to consumers across Vanguard globally. The role supports regulatory compliance, product development and oversight, investment stewardship, marketing and distribution, and investment management activities by managing ESG data operations, controls and exception processes. The analyst partners with internal stakeholders, data consumers and external suppliers to resolve data quality issues, improve service delivery and support evolving business requirements. As part of the global Investment Data Operations team, the analyst takes ownership to deliver high-quality ESG data, manage operational risk and continuously improve ESG data processes and services.

You will join a team of specialists responsible for the operational management of ESG investment data used across Vanguard globally. The team acquires, manages, controls and distributes ESG data and calculated ESG metrics that enable regulatory compliance, product development and oversight, investment stewardship, marketing and distribution, and investment management processes.

You will play a key role in ensuring ESG data is accurate, timely, controlled and fit for purpose. This includes executing operational processes, managing data quality controls, resolving exceptions, partnering with data suppliers, and supporting consumers and stakeholders across the enterprise. You will also contribute to strategic initiatives and improvements that strengthen the quality, efficiency and resilience of ESG data services.

In this role you will
  • Acquire, validate, manage and distribute ESG investment data and related analytics to consumers across Vanguard.
  • Execute and enhance operational processes and controls to ensure ESG data is accurate, timely, complete and fit for purpose.
  • Investigate and resolve complex data quality issues, workflow exceptions and stakeholder enquiries within agreed service expectations.
  • Identify data quality and timeliness issues, determine root causes, and work with internal teams and external suppliers to resolve them.
  • Use SQL, Python and other data tools to analyse large datasets, investigate data quality issues, automate repeatable tasks and strengthen operational controls.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with ESG data consumers, business stakeholders, technology partners and external data suppliers.
  • Support ESG data stewardship activities, including data definitions, metadata, lineage, trusted sources, control design and process documentation.
  • Monitor operational risks and control effectiveness, escalating material issues and identifying opportunities to improve quality, efficiency and resilience.
  • Support audits, regulatory reviews, issue remediation and risk management activities relating to ESG data and associated processes.
  • Contribute to business and technology change initiatives, including new datasets, data products, process improvements, testing, automation and platform enhancements.
  • Anticipate consumer needs and assess the operational impact of new or changing ESG data requirements.
  • Develop expertise in ESG data, sustainable investing, financial markets, data providers and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to an engaged and inclusive team culture through collaboration, knowledge sharing, training and coaching.
About you

You can manage complex issues in a fast-paced operational environment where accuracy, control and stakeholder engagement are critical. You are comfortable balancing day-to-day operational responsibilities with project and change work across multiple priorities and stakeholders.

  • Experience in investment operations, investment data management, ESG data, market data or a related financial services environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to investigate issues, assess impact and identify root causes.
  • Experience executing and improving operational processes, controls and procedures.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder relationship management skills, with the ability to work across business, operations and technology teams.
  • Experience using data analysis techniques and tools to work with complex datasets and resolve data quality or service issues.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgement and take ownership of demanding issues, often to tight deadlines.
  • Strong organisation, attention to detail and ability to manage a varied workload.
  • Curiosity and willingness to develop expertise in ESG data, sustainable investing and related regulatory requirements.
Technical skills
  • Working knowledge of SQL, including querying, joining and validating data to support investigation and control activities.
  • Working knowledge of Python for data analysis, data quality checks and process automation.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel for analysing, reconciling and presenting complex datasets.
  • Ability to understand data structures, data flows and lineage across operational processes and systems.
  • Experience with use of AI tools is desirable.
Preferred experience
  • Experience with ESG investment data, sustainable investment processes or ESG data providers.
  • Knowledge of ESG regulatory, disclosure or product oversight requirements.
  • Experience in data governance, data stewardship, metadata management or operational risk management.
  • Experience supporting data or technology change, business acceptance testing, process automation or implementation initiatives.
