Job Description

The Senior Indirect Tax Manager is a key leadership role within the Tax function, acting as the right-hand partner to the Head of Indirect Tax & Customs. While the role does not have direct responsibility for Customs, it plays a critical part in supporting the overall direction and success of the function.

Combining strategic advisory support with hands-on leadership of VAT compliance, the role ensures the business meets all indirect tax obligations across multiple jurisdictions. It also provides day-to-day guidance and oversight to junior managers, helping to build capability, drive consistency, and maintain high standards across the team.

A strong focus of the role is leading and delivering complex projects, including regulatory change, process improvements, and systems or automation initiatives. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent project management skills, ensuring initiatives are delivered on time, within scope, and with sustainable outcomes.

The role requires strong ownership and accountability, ensuring that tax risks are identified and addressed, and that solutions are delivered through to execution and embedded through effective process remediation. Regular interaction with senior stakeholders, including the Head of Indirect Tax & Customs and Financial Controllers, is a core component of the role.

The Details:

  • Act as a trusted deputy to the Head of Indirect Tax & Customs, supporting strategic priorities and decision-making.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and oversight to junior managers, ensuring high-quality delivery and professional development.
  • Lead and manage cross-functional projects, including tax transformation, regulatory change, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor and assess global indirect tax developments, translating technical changes into clear business actions.
  • Advise on indirect tax implications of new business initiatives, ensuring compliance and accurate reporting.
  • Own and oversee end-to-end VAT compliance processes, ensuring timely, accurate filings and payments.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for HMRC and other tax authorities, managing audits, enquiries, and dispute resolution.
  • Ensure robust governance through oversight of balance sheet reconciliations, controls, and audit readiness.
  • Manage relationships with outsourced compliance providers and internal finance teams.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging technology and automation to enhance efficiency and reduce risk.
  • Take accountability for resolving tax risks, ensuring solutions are implemented effectively and embedded within processes.
  • Support and promote a culture of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion across the team.

We believe being together in person helps us move faster, connect more deeply, and achieve more as a team. That’s why our approach to working together includes spending at least 3 days a week in the office. It’s a rhythm that speeds up decision-making, helps ASOSers learn from each other more quickly, and builds the kind of culture where people can grow, create, and succeed.
