We are Creditspring, a new way of borrowing that focuses on its members and provides them with safe and efficient short-term financial products.

We're a fast-growing FCA-regulated consumer credit company. We have members, not customers and we take a lot of pride in that!

As one of the UK’s only subscription finance company in the market, we truly have a unique value proposition. Our mission is very clear; to improve the financial stability and resilience of our members. We do this through the products we provide, the partnerships we have, and our educational content. We want our members, and everyone in the UK to be able to better manage their finances and steer them away from high-cost, unregulated credit options.

About the role

The Senior Financial Accountant is a key contributor to the accuracy, timeliness and control of Creditspring's financial reporting. The role owns core month-end close activities, balance sheet reconciliations and VAT compliance, from producing numbers to reviewing, analysing and explaining them.

Reporting to the Financial Controller, this role lays the groundwork for high-quality reporting and analysis through robust reconciliations and journal preparation, supports the external audit process, and acts as a first point of contact for month-end and reporting queries. It also contributes to wider team effectiveness through process improvement, and support for junior finance colleagues.

Responsibilities

 Month-end close and reporting

  • Ownership of the month-end close process, working to an agreed timetable.

  • Act as the first point of contact for month-end and reporting queries, anticipating questions and proactively sharing updates.

  • Prepare timely, insightful commentary and variance analysis on monthly results.

  • Assist credit risk analyst/technical accounting lead with preparation of technical accounting journals – IFRS 9 revenue and expected credit loss, borrowings EIR and others.

  • Contribute to the management accounts pack and departmental cost analysis, providing a clear, accurate and decision-useful view of financial performance.

  • Identify opportunities to streamline the month-end close and other finance processes.

Controls, reconciliations and compliance

  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts and take full ownership of balance sheet reconciliations and substantiation.

  • Preparation and submission of quarterly VAT return.

  • Strengthen control processes around reconciliations, journals and supporting documentation.

Audit support

  • Support the external audit process, including preparing notes to the financial statements, participating in audit walkthroughs, and gathering evidence to meet audit standards.

  • Maintain documentation and reconciliations in an audit-ready state throughout the year.

What you'll need to succeed

Experience and qualifications

  • Newly qualified ACCA (or equivalent).

  • Experience in a similar financial or management accounting role, ideally including month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations and external audit support.

  • Experience preparing VAT returns and working with cloud accounting/ERP systems (e.g. iplicit) is advantageous.

Skills and attributes

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Proactive and able to take ownership of tasks and deadlines.

  • Confident, engaged communicator, comfortable contributing views and flagging issues.

  • Analytical mindset, with the ability to move from producing numbers to explaining and contextualising them for non-finance stakeholders.

  • A collaborative approach, with a track record of building effective working relationships across a team.

  • Prior experience with a lending business is favourable, but not essential
