Summary
We're looking for a Senior Finance Manager to join our Change & Controls team and play a key role in strengthening the control environment across M&S. This is a high-profile opportunity to partner with senior Finance leaders, influence decision-making at the highest levels of the business and help ensure our governance, risk and control frameworks continue to evolve and mature.
Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, you'll take ownership of key operational control activities, support the ongoing development of the Group's Material Control Framework and act as a trusted adviser to stakeholders across Finance, Risk and Internal Audit. You'll also lead and develop a small team while working alongside peers as a senior member of the wider Change & Controls leadership team.
This role would suit someone who enjoys combining technical expertise with strategic thinking, can build strong relationships across a complex organisation and is passionate about driving continuous improvement.
To stay close to customers, our support teams are in the office three days a week as we believe that skills are developed through collaboration, and that spending time together makes us more creative and connected.
What you’ll do
Your key accountabilities will include:
- A senior risk and controls professional with the ability to identify opportunities to strengthen governance, risk management and operational controls, driving practical improvements across a large and complex business.
- A trusted partner to senior stakeholders, capable of building credibility quickly and influencing Finance Directors and leadership teams through insight, challenge and expert advice.
- Strong expertise in risk management, internal controls and assurance frameworks, with the ability to interpret regulatory requirements and translate them into pragmatic, commercially focused solutions.
- An excellent communicator and presenter who can confidently engage senior audiences, simplify complex topics and support effective decision-making at Executive and Board Committee level.
- A change-oriented mindset, with a track record of improving processes, solving complex problems and embedding sustainable ways of working that enhance control effectiveness and organisational resilience.
Who you are
Your skills and experience will include:
- A qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with significant post-qualified experience in finance, risk, controls, assurance or governance within a large and complex organisation.
- An experienced people manager who enjoys coaching, developing and supporting others, creating an environment where individuals can thrive and deliver their best work.
- A collaborative senior leader who works effectively alongside peers, contributes to wider team objectives and helps shape the direction of the Change & Controls function through expertise and influence.
- A credible influencer and relationship builder who can challenge constructively, navigate ambiguity and bring stakeholders together to achieve positive outcomes.
- A commercially-minded problem solver who combines analytical thinking with sound judgement, ensuring risks are managed effectively while supporting broader business priorities and growth ambitions.
